Tez Cadey’s “Coastal Cat” Inspires Memories of Life Abroad

In the section Nostalgia Tracks, team members discuss their favorite songs, ones that they have a deep connection with. In the first edition, Daillen, one of our contributing music and arts writers, recalls memories of her time abroad by way of Tez Cadey’s “Coastal Cat”.

While studying abroad in Lyon, France last fall, I was introduced to the invigorating, instrumental style of DJ Tez Cadey. His unique sound takes me back to sipping absinthe in the dimly lighted, underground bars of Lyon and Paris, as the track “Coastal Cat” embodies one of many emerging styles beloved by my French contemporaries. His use of the piano and saxophone in “Coastal Cat” blend perfectly with the steady beats and dynamic bass. Other tracks like “Seve” and “Foster” exemplify his versatility as a DJ and his ability to masterfully intertwine hints of pop, funk, and even world music.

At just 20 years old, Tez Cadey is without a doubt one of France’s hottest up-and-coming DJs. Hailing from Lille in Northern France, he has been producing music for three years now and already has an impressive collection of danceable tracks that rivals many of the DJs twice his age. “Coastal Cat” is his most popular track and earned him a name in France’s DJ community. Tez Cadey is just hitting his stride so watch out, I have no doubt that his music will garner international attention in no time!

Raised in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, Daillen is studying arts administration at the University of Virginia. She enjoys live music, hot yoga, and traveling the world.
