Blending psychedelic rock with bright urgency, Water and Man’s “When It Comes to Life” captures the instinctive, endless nature of man’s search for meaning.

Won’t stop till I find a sight that satisfies…

We’re all searching for purpose and meaning in one way or another. Some of us look to our own actions and impact on the world to justify our existence; others turn to more spiritual matters to feed that drive. Blending psychedelic rock with bright urgency, Water and Man’s “When It Comes to Life” captures the instinctive and endless nature of man’s search for meaning.

Walking down this curvy line
Break through the summit
The greatest view is from up high
Don’t miss another
Drifting to the oceanside
Waves draw me closer
The warmest breeze comes with the tide
Follow the current

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “When It Comes To Life,” the third single off Water and Man’s upcoming sophomore album, Phantasie (independently out August 24, 2018). Originally hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, indie psych-rock band Water and Man released their debut album Into the Infinite in 2014 and made the life-changing move to New York City three years later.

Currently consisting of Vic Delnur (lead vocals, guitar, keys), Lip dos Santos (keys), Eric Maciel (guitar, keys), Flavio Ferraz (bass, synth), and Milton Arantes (drums), Water and Man are reintroducing themselves through Phantasie‘s sonically adventurous music and perspective-shifting lyrics. “When It Comes to Life” follows emphatically deep lead single “Phantasie” and June’s second single “Dreams of Love,” both of which capture the band’s penchant for dreamy synth/guitar combinations and progressive, “psychedelic” mindset.

“When It Comes to Life” is perhaps Water and Man’s catchiest single to date, its vibing pulse brimming with passionate warmth and fervent emotion. Delnur’s voice blends with high harmonies as he sings about that constant pull for more – whether that’s understanding, substance, or whatever – in the song’s chorus:

Won’t stop till I find
A sight that satisfies
Maybe I’m out of time
That’s when it comes to life
Say what comes to mind
Walk straight out of line
Call it holy or divine
That’s when it comes to life

“This song talks about our relationship with the ocean, the search of who we are and where we will go,” Water and Man tell Atwood Magazine. “In a sense, we all seek self-knowledge, even if it is in an unconscious way.” For a band literally named Water and Man, it was probably only a matter of time until they released a song that played with their own namesake. “When It Comes to Life” explores our innate need to understand what we are, who we are, and why we exist, and it does so through one of the givers of life itself, water.

Poetic and polished, the band’s lyrics reflect sensitivity to sound and structure:

The ocean floor is a surprise
Forget the surface
One that never would run dry
I drink at the fountain of life
Won’t stop till I find
A sight that satisfies
Maybe I’m out of time
That’s when it comes to life
Say what comes to mind
Walk straight out of line
Call it holy or divine
That’s when it comes to life

Whether you’re in the midst of your own life-defining quest for knowledge, or swimming through the riptide, “When It Comes to Life” will shake you awake and lull you into an evocative slumber. Stream Water and Man’s  newest song exclusively on Atwood Magazine, and stay tuned for their sophomore album, Phantasie, out August 24, 2018!
