You can’t see the beauty of all the stars in the sky when in the middle of the day; you have to wait for nightfall to dwell in the starry sky. Sometimes it’s in the darkest times that light shines the brightest, as is the case in Jesse Denaro’s new single “Slow Dance.” A heartfelt, bluesy love song full of strife and strain, the new track resonates with heavy warmth and vibing rhythms that capture the pain, and passion, of true love.

Heart ache, bad attitude, is all I knew
Before there was you
Lonely and suffering, is all I been through
Before there was you
I will always be your baby,
when the sun goes down

I will always be your baby,
when you’re not around

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Slow Dance,” the lead single off Jesse Denaro’s forthcoming sophomore album. Citing influences as far-reaching as SZA, Daniel Caesar, and the newly-reinvented singer/songwriter Harry Styles, Jesse Denaro has the grit of a Nashville rocker and the smooth, irresistible gusto of John Mayer. His guitar vocalizes as much emotion as his voice at times, perfectly complementing the intense inner turmoil familiar to anyone who has truly known love.

Slow dance with me
I just knew when we locked eyes,
that was it girl you were mine
Slow dance with me

“I’m super excited to release this song into the world today,” Jesse Denaro shares. “Writing ‘Slow Dance’ was particularly fun and challenging, because I wanted to write a love song, while I personally was going through one of the hardest times in my life. I am so programmed to write sad songs that this song was a wonderful break from the norm, and I’m super proud of how it turned out.”

Of course, ‘happy’ might be somewhat of a stretch – but there’s a deep ring of truth to it, as well. “Slow Dance” is a deep recognition of the one who matters most in life. It’s comes from darkness, and even dwells in the sadder, more turbulent emotions as we find Denaro struggling to make his love last.

Stop time, think of it, or girl you’re perfect
Just you and me
Easy and delicate, girl you’re so damn worth it
Just you and me
I will always be your baby,
when the sun goes down

I will always be your baby,
when you’re not around

“Slow Dance” may be a tribute to that brighter place, but it’s only as bright as it is because the narrator has known what it’s like to be completely in the dark. It’s understanding just how bad things have been, and can be that gives Denaro the wherewithal to recognize the profound impact of his loved one on his life. Love is so much more than a four-letter word; it can mean the difference between life and death. Between a day full of sorrow, or a day that hangs on the glimmer of hope – and glimmer that may one day shine as bright as the sun.

“Slow Dance” has the perfect edge to its bounce. It’s a song you’ll play to keep you warm on the cold nights, and to heat things up when the sparks come alive. With a voice like gold and the guitar skills to match, Jesse Denaro slides into our playlists, and into our lives.
