Falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship is never a good thing.

KOOLKID has only been around for a minute — his debut single “2 SOON” released just last month — but we can already tell he’s here for keeps. Aside from working with some of pop’s most prominent icons (he co-wrote “Mikrokosmos” with BTS and has more in store with them), the young Scot is quickly coming into his own with powerfully provocative writing and a dramatically emotive sound. Getting all up in our “Feelings,” KOOLKID’s dynamic sophomore single is an aching, heartfelt confession wrapped in a bustling, sleek pop anthem.

I saw his picture on your phone
No he ain’t coming cause
his friends don’t like you

You know that we don’t get a long
Cause he got something
that I want & that’s you
I’m sorry I said it
These drinks I regret it
There’s no point pretending I don’t
I’m angry I never
Was It for the better
Cause nobody ever comes close

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Feelings,” the second single release from Glasgow’s KOOLKID. The moniker for 23-year-old singer and songwriter Ryan Lawrie, KOOLKID is a message of unity and togetherness – an artist identity inviting all of us, no matter who we are or what we were like in high school, to come together in the name of music, dancing, and shared experiences.

Lawrie has his thumb on the pop music scales – he’s got the writing and production chops to make a song that sounds and feels radio-worthy – but it’s the fact that he digs deeper that will keep listeners coming back to songs like “2 SOON” and “Feelings” again and again.

A soaring track incorporating pop melodies, trap percussion, and deliciously evocative synth hits into a wellspring of emotion, “Feelings” burns with the weight of knowing the person you care about already has someone else.

“Falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship is never a good thing. ‘Feelings’ is an upbeat pop anthem that is sure to make you reminisce being in this situation,” KOOLKID tells Atwood Magazine. “You know you have certain feelings, but you only want to feel them with that one person, but you can’t. I feel like we can all relate to being in this situation at one point in our lives. I have, and that is why I wrote this song.”

KOOLKID sings a passionate outpouring in the chorus:

I got feelings, & I only wanna feel them round you
I got feelings, & I only wanna see what they’ll do
When my feelings feeling on your body babe, body babe
Feelings feeling on your body babe, body babe
I got feelings, & I only wanna feel them round you

KOOLKID really does let it all out, and with the help of video director and editor Adam McMillan, “Feelings” comes to life in a gloriously captivating visual. Shot in Scotland’s wilderness, the music video finds KOOLKID wandering through the wild as he undergoes a parallel internal struggle, his eyes darting wildly between big dyed-black orbs and giant white windows into the soul.

I said that I could walk you home
No, don’t go thinking that I try to hard now
I only wanna let you know
That I’ve been feeling this for way to long now
I’m sorry I said it
These drinks I regret it
There’s no point pretending I don’t
I’m angry I never
Was It for the better
Cause nobody ever comes close

In addition the beautiful British brush surrounding every scene, perhaps the most compelling part of this visual is KOOLKID’s own posture: From trudging forward with a blindfold, to toiling his way over red hills, green valleys, and blue streams, the artist’s performance faithfully recreates the turbulence in his music.

I got feelings, & I only wanna feel them round you
I got feelings, & I only wanna see what they’ll do
When my feelings feeling on your body babe, body babe
Feelings feeling on your body babe, body babe
I got feelings, & I only wanna feel them round you

KOOLKID’s journey is only just beginning, and we cannot wait to see where 2020 takes this promising pop talent. The artist will be performing at Newcastle’s Hit The North Festival on May 3rd, and a playing a headline show at Glasgow’s Attic @ The Garage on May 29th! But whether you catch him live or simply stream his songs on repeat, one thing is certain: KOOLKID’s got us all up in our feelings, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
