Find out that we’re all just made of a little red thread…

What is it about our shared humanity that brings us together in so many ways? At first glance we all seem so different, and yet when you zoom in or out just a little bit, we are the same. We breathe the same air and we inhabit each other’s orbits, together under one sun and in one world; like it or not, we are all in this life together. KT Tunstall captures the magic and power of connection in “Little Red Thread,” a dynamic ode to life, time, and being.

I know you know
You know I know
The feeling isn’t easy being taken away from each other
But I will let
You be connected to me
By a red thread tying us to one another
To one another
To one another

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering KT Tunstall’s Nashville Tour Diary video for “Little Red Thread,” celebrating Day 7 of the #12DaysOfKTChristmas! A raw, driving rock song, “Little Red Thread” is the exciting opening track to Tunstall’s recently-released sixth album, WAX (Oct 5, 2018 via Rostrum Records). The second in a trilogy of records exploring themes of spirit, body, and mind, the “body”-focused WAX follows 2016’s Top 10 album KIN, in which Tunstall took on notions of the spirit and spirituality.

“Little Red Thread” is an all-too-perfect segue into the concept of body, physicality, and physical connection; the acclaimed Scottish singer/songwriter opens our eyes to notions of being through minimalist poetry focused on relationships and staying power – as she sings in the second verse,

You are a friend, but even enemies
Have a connection to the tapestry
that’s hanging in us

I wanna know, I need to know
The true amount of pressure
that a heartstring can take upon it

Take upon it

These philosophical reflections lead into a impassioned catchy chorus, where Tunstall exclaims our inherent link to one another – a special piece of our collective life that can never be taken away:

When we
Find out that it’s all
Find out that it’s all
Just made of a little red thread
Find out that we’re all
Find out that we’re all
Just made of a little red thread

Tunstall’s tour video takes from her recent performance at Nashville’s 3rd and Lindsley in early November 2018. “I love playing Nashville, it’s always such a good feeling to be on stage in a town with that musical history,” she tells Atwood Magazine. “It was also a thrill putting the 2-piece show together with drummer Cat Myers – we got really creative about how to play the new songs, using my loop pedal, samples, and different sounds.”

With pedals and pads to her side and a dazzling Gibson slung over her shoulders, KT Tunstall enthralls her audience – and while we may not be able to hear their cheers and cries in this video (the audio takes from the album), we get to watch a captivating musical force of nature still in its prime. It’s been thirteen years since Tunstall’s debut Eye to the Telescope made her a household name, and songs like “Suddenly I See” and “Black Horse and The Cherry Tree” dominated the airwaves — but with six albums under her belt and a seventh (the “mind”-ful finale of her trilogy) in the works, KT Tunstall continues to inspire provocative thought and intimate emotion.
