When we last met Brighton-based band Twilight Driving in late 2018, they were tearing it up with their fourth single “Dangerous” – lighting up our nights with an “ambient indie pop outpouring” full of passion. Some seventeen months later, the British indie pop/rock group’s return is nothing short of cinematic: An excitingly intimate overhaul of feverish passion and glistening energy, “Break Your Heart” continues Twilight Driving’s magnificent streak of immersive, ambient singalong jams.

Go ahead, break our hearts.

Breathing in
Holding out
for something better
Looking in your eyes
I know you feel the same
Holding onto memories
’cause you think it keeps you sane

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Break Your Heart,” the fifth lifetime song release from indie up-and-comers Twilight Driving. Since debuting in September 2017 with the Killers-esque “Soft & Pink,” the four-piece of George Gleeson, Will Mavin, Aidan Chadwick, and Danny Lawrence have established themselves as an artist-to-watch in England’s southern coastal region: With stadium-sized, reverb-drenched guitar licks and bombastic, catchy choruses, it’s hard to deny Twilight Driving’s allure. We feel for them when they released “Dangerous,” and now we’re doing it all over again with “Break Your Heart.”

Escaping out of the gate with a galloping groove, Twilight Driving inject a startling immediacy into their new song. No sooner have we reacquainted ourselves with Gleeson’s evocative, deep vocals, than we are subject to a dynamic ramp-up in tension and sonic electricity that pours out in a exciting chorus:

But you’re better when you’re in your happy place
And I can tell when your not by the look on your face
And the stains on your clothes and the state of your place
Every time I come around
But you can’t shake this feeling
Go ahead and break your heart
Go ahead and break your heart
No you can’t shake this feeling
Go ahead and break your heart
Go ahead and break your

Twilight Driving wanted their new music to reflect the inner strain and distress of a heartbreak, and their execution is nothing short of memorable.

“While we were writing and recording ‘Break Your Heart’, our friend was going through a really tough break up and was struggling with how the anxiety was affecting their entire life,” the band tell Atwood Magazine. “Overplaying memories and actions, living with the constant emptiness of a broken heart. We wanted to give the song an underlying feeling of the stress and anxiety that they were going through. The fast pacing of the song represents to us the building up of dread and panic which these symptoms induce.”

Maybe I
Could have done
More in hindsight
But it’s looking back at things done wrong
That make you see how far you’ve come
How far you’ve come

The band’s first song in a year and a half, “Break Your Heart” signals a welcome return from Twilight Driving. It’s a song we’re excited to bust out on repeat, and when we’re all able to go out again, one that will no doubt feel extra-special driving down the highway late at night, the wind rushing past us as we soak in a dark evening mood.
