There is something deeply satisfying about The Jacks’ edgy, classic indie rock energy. Defining themselves as “not a rock band,” but “a rock n’ roll band,” the Los Angeles four-piece formed two years ago in 2016 and have quickly made a name for themselves out West, selling out major venues like The Troubadour and The Roxy. The Jacks bring their massive, fearless energy to new single “Tonight,” erupting in an alt-rock blaze of glory and grit.

My heads a wreck
You know I need you
Saw you with your man an hour ago
With your satin dress
My Mona Lisa
Where you going won’t you let me know

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Tonight,” a driving rock song driven by youthful thirst and raw energy. Every generation needs a few raw voices that tell it like it is, and The Jacks do exactly that as they lay their cards on the table and shoot for the moon:

Tonight - The Jacks
Tonight – The Jacks
Come on, come on, I can’t take it
You know that I’m waiting for you
And I don’t wanna, don’t wanna face it
You know that I’m waiting for you
Tonight, I’ll be waiting for you
I’ll be waiting here
Tonight, I’ll be waiting for you
I’ll be waiting here tonight

Surging overdriven guitars crunch and careen over pulsing a bass beat and pouncing drums. “Tonight” is a powerful introduction to those not already familiar with The Jacks; meanwhile, those already in-the-know can embrace this rocker in all its explosive glory.

“While most of our music touches on serious themes in our lives, “Tonight” is a light hearted yet power-driven track,” The Jacks’ lead guitarist Tom Hunter tells Atwood Magazine. “‘Tonight’ is an angsty anthem about the cat-and-mouse-like chases on a night out. It discusses being infatuated with someone who may or may not be interested in you, but you hold on with hope because the night is telling you so.”

Hunter is joined by bandmates Jonny Stanback (vocals, rhythm guitar), Scott Stone (bass guitar), and Josh Roossin (percussion). As he describes, The Jacks’ previous singles have offered different ranges in emotional meaning and personal value – previous single “Hello My Friend” is a great example of the band’s ability to blend garage- and Brit-rock influences alongside deeper, more intimate themes.

In this crowded room
I’m in the shadows
You’re a face moving out sight
I know you’re getting
What you came for
But you’re giving me nothing, right?
I’ve had enough,
but I know that I just won’t
let it, just won’t let it go
It’s adding up, but I know
that I just won’t let it,
just won’t let it go

What “Tonight” delivers is a more instinctual needing and wanting. The Jacks release pent-up tension in a ferocious outpouring of unadulterated desire, perfectly matching the in-the-moment sensibilities of late-night longing. When we hear Jonny Stanback shout, “Tonight….,“holding the note to accentuate his point, we truly feel his and the band’s passion.

The Jacks’ story is just beginning, but this band is coming in hot and fast. If you like unabashed rock n’ roll bands like Oasis, The Strokes, The Black Keys, The Rolling Stones,  The Struts, and so on, then you’ll be falling for The Jacks in no time!
