Singer/songwriter James Taylor is famous for saying, “The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.”
Though we want to be able to enjoy it, for many of us, including myself, at times that can be a struggle. All of us have various desires and dreams. As each day goes by, we hope we are getting a little closer to those goals. As time progresses, as much as we want to cherish that passage, a gnawing anxiousness can rear its ugly head.
Singer/songwriter Maya Ixta’s second song (and first bilingual single) “Time” explores the fears that can creep up with the passage of time. Whether it is wondering if you have accomplished enough or just missing the simpler times of your youth, as it moves the pressure can increase.
Independently released May 2nd, the atmospheric track flows like a faucet of soothing earworms, showcasing intricate Spanish guitar and soft-bead like sounds. The calming backdrop juxtaposes a not-so-relaxing message of always feeling like your dashing to beat the clock. Ixta’s dreamy vocals add to that euphoric eminence. With every intoxicating harmony we are wholly hooked.
The throbbing beat mimics the hands of a clock ticking. We sense the time slipping away like sand between our fingers. The pensive piece is sung in English and Spanish, and even for those who do not understand Spanish, Ixta moves her audiences with her intense passion. When she sings “I need more time” and extends the word time, it is an aching plea for things to slow down. We have that same wishful yearning.
Having just debuted her first single “Count One It’s Me” in February, Maya Ixta is steadily making her way in the music scene.
The Los Angeles-based artist was named the youngest student to complete the “Music Industry Essentials” Certificate Program in 2022 from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Recently she was also accepted to the Grammy Museum Songwriting Intensive, where she studied with prominent songwriters and other music industry titans.
Her vast successes have shaped Ixta into the blossoming talent she is today. That musical gift has led to a co-write on this offering with acclaimed producer, Daniel Jimenez Afandor to craft a single with so much depth. Not only is “Time” a sonic triumph, but Ixta also succeeds in stunningly articulating a relatable message. We look forward to hearing more.
