Released June 27, 2024 via Beeline Records, “Sleep On It” is raw, yet refined tranquility: A soothing, synth-soaked hypnosis that immerses listeners in a musical and emotional dreamland for three and a half cathartic, meditative minutes. eundohee’s first song following last year’s acclaimed Kookaburra EP is utterly intoxicating: Between the effect-laden guitar licks, the glistening, minimalist synth work, the heavy, composed drums, and her own radiant, intimate vocal performance, “Sleep On It” is primed to be an alternative music lover’s soundtrack to the late summer’s heat, where all you want to do is laze out in sun and feel the beams all around you.
A fast-rising artist living in the South Korean capital city, eundohee has been finding (and forever reinventing) her artistic voice for the past six-plus years now. Her music is enchanting, entrancing, intimate, and often unapologetically raw – filled with introspection, substance, and meaning, and forever derived from the deepest parts of her soul. Kookaburra, released in May 2023, was itself both a vehicle for sonic expression and a vessel for therapeutic release. In an artist feature published last year, Atwood Magazine praised as a “record of awakening and inner reckoning that uplifts through achingly intimate and spirited indie folk music full of heart, hope, and raw, unfiltered emotion,” going on to call it “a hauntingly beautiful, intentional, and invigorating exhale.”
“Sleep On It” is the lead single off eundohee’s forthcoming sophomore album, Blue Comedy. While not a concept album per se, the new record is the product of eundohee’s journey through the highs and lows of mental illness. “The album captures a journey through bipolar disorder, exploring the deep valleys and unexpected peaks of living with mental illness,” she tells Atwood Magazine. “Life is a comedy anyway, so I try to take pleasure in it.”
“The color blue encompasses meanings like transience, disappearance, and emptiness. It is often associated with feelings of melancholy. Unlike depression, bipolar disorder causes me to swing between extreme highs and lows.”
The songs themselves find eundohee navigating this multifaceted emotional landscape of extremes. “On extremely bad days, I can’t do anything. Eating makes my stomach hurt, and trying to sleep makes me irritable and wake up,” she shares. “While teaching music creation, I sometimes couldn’t focus, and on certain days, my hands and voice would tremble so much that I couldn’t teach.”
Meanwhile, “when I feel extremely good, I talk about these distressing experiences jokingly. This often turns into laughter, and some friends see me as funny.” While about half of the album’s songs express the pain she feels when she’s close to depression, the other half come from her good mood during manic phases.
“I desire light-hearted, fun conversations and adopt an optimistic attitude towards life,” she notes. “The term ‘Blue Comedy’ is a fitting combination that showcases these two different sides of me. Despite the pain, there are genuinely fun moments.”
A song that, like phototropic plants, leans toward the light, “Sleep On It” is from one of eundohee’s happier, manic days.
In it, she yearns to maintain her good mood by avoiding heavier subjects and keeping things quaint and easy. “I’m just sick of this deep conversation,” she sings in the first verse, her hushed, mesmerizing voice melting over mellow instrumentals. “Please don’t ask me what I am looking for; I have my gut feelings like an animal.” The desire to maintain this delicate dream-state continues on in her second verse:

“After some time has passed, I start to take my medication again,” eundohee says of her song. “Now is the time when I can push aside all the negative thoughts. I go for walks with my dog and talk about animals with people whose names I don’t know. Through light but positive conversations, my mood improves. I concentrate hard and capture the essence of those conversations, except for the serious ones.”
“My mind is always filled with something, but today it’s momentarily empty. In need of positivity and joy, this is the first ‘comedy’ track from the upcoming album Blue Comedy.”
