Hailing from Philadelphia, the now London-based artist ELUNIA explores burnout and the weight of overwork on her latest single, “Strobe Lights.”

The unflinchingly honest track delves into burnout culture and sees the songwriter open up about her own experiences with working under extreme pressure and battling with the consequences.

The songwriter confides, “It seemed like a prize to be overworked, to have dark circles under your eyes. I tried to convince myself I was fine, but I realised I was losing the connection to my younger self and the version of me who created music just to feel something real.”

“I wish that I could rest
dislodge it from my chest
I wish that I could go back
to the summers of the past”

With “Strobe Lights,” ELUNIA shifts her sound into more expansive, textural territory. The production leans into haunting ambience, featuring fluttering electronics, gentle percussion and an echoing atmosphere that never becomes cluttered. Subtle details mimic water droplets and nocturnal city noise, quietly reflecting her move to London and the sensory overload that accompanied it.

“I know that I should say that I’m fine
circles underneath my eyes
like a prize
like a disguise”

Vocally, ELUNIA emits a soft and controlled, almost angelic quality to the performance, with layered harmonies that glow without overwhelming or taking away from the arrangement. It’s a careful balance where the voice blends into the soundscape rather than dominating it, resulting in an intimate feel. Distant birdsong brings the track to an end, fading out slowly to perhaps represent the concept of burnout, and quite literally becoming a shadow of yourself.

“What happens when you give yourself time
but you’re slipping in decline?
it’s a grind
it’s a tough ride”

ELUNIA Speaks of Conformity vs. Individuality & Upcoming EP ‘DEEP END’

:: INTERVIEW ::

Compared to her earlier 2021 EP, DEEP END, “Strobe Lights” is a notable evolution for ELUNIA.

Her sound feels larger, more confident and mature, nodding to her lived experiences in the past years which have taught her valuable life lessons, which have ultimately enhanced the emotional weight of the lyrics.

Through delicate, layered textures, ELUNIA takes an innovative approach to immersive sound design, delivering a style which is distinctly her own.

“What happened to that girl on the train?
I’m calling out her name
to see my face
before the dark days”
