Playful, sweet, and soulful, “For One Last Time” is a spirited sendoff full of positive thoughts and good vibes. Some endings are fond and some are fraught; whatever the case may be, Chenayder reminds us to embrace the person for who they are and who they’ve been, and let them go.

You shouldn’t feel bad about a breakup, and you shouldn’t wish bad on that person… You should be able to move on without feeling negative emotions.

We could all stand to learn a lesson from 17-year-old bedroom pop artist Chenayder.

And it goes well beyond not looking back in anger, holding onto grudges, or dwelling in what could have been; on the singer/songwriter’s first single of the year, she shows us what it’s really like to take the high road. Playful, sweet, and soulful, “For One Last Time” is a spirited sendoff full of positive thoughts and good vibes. Some endings are fond and some are fraught; whatever the case may be, Chenayder reminds us to embrace the person for who they are and who they’ve been, and let them go – in more ways than one.

For one last time
i’ll be on your mind (mind)
For one last time
i’ll be on your mind (mind)

Released February 9, 2024 via Alamo Records, “For One Last Time” is a tender, dreamy reverie. Described by Chenayder as a “cute and fun bop,” her latest offering sees her singing atop beds of shuffling drums and saccharine keyboard chords, all in the spirit of making peace with a not-so-distant past.

“I was in California working on a bunch of records,” the Orlando-based artist tells Atwood Magazine. “On this day I was working with two producers, and they showed me many loops and two stuck out to me, one of which was the “for one last time” loop. The reason I ended up choosing this one is because the lyrics just automatically came to me when I heard it. It wasn’t based on real experiences, but it was fun to imagine how I would feel in that scenario.”

Something I couldn’t get off my chest
“I mean I wish you the best”
“I mean I wish you the best”
Couldn’t say it to your (face)
But jealousy is not the case
I just want you to say
I just want you to say
For one last time
i’ll be on your mind (mind)
For one last time
i’ll be on your mind (mind)

For Chenayder, this song’s takeaways are obvious. “You shouldn’t feel bad about a breakup and you shouldn’t wish bad on that person,” she says. “I feel like you should be able to move on without feeling negative emotions. And just wish them the best – unless they are terrible.”

That sentiment is reinforced with the chorus’ lyric, “for one last time, I’ll be on your mind.”

“What that line means is that for one more moment you’ll remember us and everything we have done together,” she explains. “It could be a bad or good thing but for me, personally, I wish them the best.”

I can tell you like mind games
nothing ever stays the same
when I’m with you.
I know, I know you never wanna leave

but I beg and please (please).
Say it aloud, say it aloud
Please, please, please, please
Please, please, please, please

Take a cue from Chenayder’s book, and make peace with those you’ve parted ways with. It’s a noble goal to aspire towards, and a lesson we could all learn from as we each endeavor to move forward, onward, and upward in our lives.

That this song is irresistibly intoxicating and carries with it such a powerful, worthwhile message is simply the icing on the cake.

For one last time
i’ll be on your mind (mind)
For one last time
i’ll be on your mind (mind)
For one last time
i’ll be on your mind (mind)
For one last time
i’ll be on your mind (mind)
