Performances from music legends Kings of Leon and The 1975, impressive displays of surfing talent, a festival site dedicated to providing good times and a keen eye on sustainability are the four things Boardmasters are doing to make the Cornish coastline even more spectacular this summer. Boardmasters Festival, which will commence on August 5th 2020, is held at Newquay’s Fistral Beach and this year is set to be the event’s best yet.
The first wave of the 2020 line up was announced on February 4th and whether you’re a fan of grime, rock, house, pop or anything in-between, there’s already something for you. Although, if you’re waiting for the second wave announcement, don’t get your heart set on a specific date. The Boardmasters team are keeping people on their toes by remaining purposefully vague, stating the announcement will arrive ‘dreckly’ — which is Cornish for “some time in the future.”
From what we already know, Boardmasters Festival is coming through with a strong supply of bona fide music greats and upcoming artists.

Skepta
Touted as the man who took UK grime to the world stage, Skepta has played a pivotal role in UK music history. Winner of the Mercury Music Prize, founder of grime collective and record label ‘Boy Better Know’ and creator of a catalogue of hits, Skepta is sure to get Boardmasters started on the right foot as he takes the first headline slot on Friday 7th August.
Kings of Leon
Guitar gods King of Leon are back. It’s been four years since the Nashville rockers released their last album and three years since they played a UK show. After announcing a show in Finsbury Park this summer it looks as though they’re set to hit the festival scene as Boardmasters have confirmed the rock legends as the Saturday night headliner.
The 1975
The 1975 are the band slowly taking over the universe. This four-piece have proved themselves as musical juggernauts and have secured a hat-trick of UK number one albums. It is expected that this genre-bending band will continue in the same vein with their fourth album ‘Notes on a Conditional Form’, which is set for release this spring. The 1975 will fill Boardmasters’ Sunday headline slot.
Sam Fender
Newer to the scene than the likes of Skepta, Kings of Leon and The 1975, Sam Fender has spent the last few years proving his worth as a future music heavyweight. This Geordie musician debuted last year with the number one record ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ and hasn’t looked back since. After selling out two UK tours it’s clear that the musical future is bright for the impassioned and socially aware songwriter who will perform on Saturday 8th.
Mura Masa
Mura Masa is an electronic producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who, at the age of just 23, has already won his first Grammy for ‘Best Remixed Recording’ and collaborated with the likes of A$AP Rocky and Damon Albarn. Mura Masa, also known as Alex Crossan, has also just released his second album R.Y.C, which includes the track Teenage Headache Dreams featuring Ellie Rowsell of Wolf Alice. Catch Mura Masa on Friday 7th at Boardmasters.

Beabadoobee
Coming from the same record label as The 1975, Dirty Hit, Beabadoobee has some pretty big shoes to fill – but she’s doing that just fine. The 19-year-old began creating DIY bedroom pop songs in 2017, which gained attention from fans and music tastemakers alike. This up and coming star is sure to win you over at this year’s Boardmasters with her authenticity and grungy charm.
Lily Moore
Named as one to watch by NME, The Guardian and MTV, it is essential that you get to know Lily Moore and her powerful vocals. Bluesy neo-soul, with a touch of jazz, is just one way to describe Lily Moore’s style, but really this newcomer has a style all of her own. Catch this future hitmaker on Sunday at Boardmasters.
Tora
Tora are the Australian band known for their slow and soft beats and chilled out groove. Once upon a time, Tora were Byron Bay’s best-kept secret but since announcing their world tour the cat’s out of the bag. Last year the band released their album ‘Can’t Buy the Mood’, which perfectly captures the vibe of endless summer days — making Tora the perfect act to play at summer’s best beach festival.
