From ‘The Voice,’ to the road, to the recording booth, bodie has covered many bases lately – but his beloved family back home will always come first.

If I fail to be a good father and husband, nothing else on this Earth that I’ve built or spent time on will matter.
* * *
At surface level, it would seem as though bodie’s life is fully dominated by music.
He was raised in the music-heavy city of Los Angeles and naturally progressed into the local creative talent scene. In 2022, he made it all the way to second place on The Voice, performing knockout covers of songs like “Gratitude” and “You Found Me.”
Since then, he’s released three EPs and, this past September, his first full-length project, NO SKIPS. A deluxe edition, with five live recordings added on, followed four months later, and he’s also recently toured alongside Tennessee rock singer, Colton Dixon. A couple new singles have emerged in recent months – “ALMOST FAMOUS,” “OBSESSED,” and “GO FOR BROKE” – which seemingly indicates that the multi-talented artist will have even more in store for us in due course.
Yet all the while, bodie has made sure to devote plenty of time an effort to being a family man. Throughout his busy touring and recording schedule, he remains extra close to and supportive of his wife, Royale, and children, Indie, Violet, and Goldie. “If I fail to be a good father and husband,” he insists, nothing else on this Earth that I’ve built or spent time on will matter.”
In the following interview with Atwood Magazine, bodie further details his duo devotion to both his home and his recording studio, as well as how each of his identities as a family man and musician has come to influence the other.

A CONVERSATION WITH BODIE

Atwood Magazine: Growing up in Southern California, what sort of musical influences were you exposed to that inspired you to become a performer yourself?
bodie: I grew up in Los Angeles to musical parents. I grew up on Rock, Classic Rock, and Grunge. Lots and lots of it. Inevitably, I found myself naturally gravitating towards making music at a very young age.
How would you summarize your experience on The Voice? What inspiration or motivation did you get from this experience?
bodie: My time on The Voice was absolutely wonderful. Aside from the time it took being away from my family, the whole experience challenged me and empowered me to grow as a vocalist, create as an artist, and portray the best version of myself that I possibly could. I’m still in awe over the impact I made with my finale performance of singing “Gratitude” on the show. Truly grateful.

It's been close to a year since you released your first LP, NO SKIPS. Looking back, how was this project a major artistic step forward for you?
bodie: It was my first album… and that’s really exciting.
Honestly it was kind of just an eclectic group of songs that I wrote while trying to figure out who I wanted to be as an artist. Although there’s not much of a “through line,” when I look at these songs, I’m reminded of the incredible process. It took writing these songs as I took time to discern what I was supposed to sound like and talk about in my first year as a signed artist… although I am extremely proud of the songs on that project, I can guarantee that my next album is going to be a lot more consistent and thought out, sonically and thematically.
What would you like to share about your new singles, “OBSESSED,” “ALMOST FAMOUS,” and “GO FOR BROKE”? Is this a warm-up for a follow-up project?
bodie: Yes… It is! My new sound feels like home and I’m really excited for all that I’ve been working on is beginning to be released to the world to hear (and see)!!!

How was the tour with Colton Dixon? What memorable anecdotes have emerged from this experience?
bodie: Colton quickly became a close friend. His whole camp was wonderful and it was quite honestly the best and most fun tour I’ve ever been on. From the jokes and pranks, to genuine conversations and times of ministry together, it was such a wonderful experience. Hope to do more with him and his team; I got a lot of love for the CD camp.
It seems like you're a real family man in addition to all your music-making. How do you balance both sets of responsibilities?
bodie: If I fail to be a good father and husband, nothing else on this Earth that I’ve built or spent time on will matter. So I always keep my priorities straight; God, husband and fatherhood, career. It’s a hard balance and accountability is crucial, but so far so good.
