Boasting one of the most EDM heavy lineups in this year’s festival season, Breakaway Kansas City is a hidden gem in the world of dance music. Hosted at the stunning Azura Amphitheater in Kansas, the lineup this year features huge names like Zedd, Gryffin, Elohim, Griz, and RL Grime. Taking place this year from July 14th through the 15th, this festival is a must-see if you’re a raver in the Midwest.
This lineup speaks for itself. Up and coming DJs share the stage with veterans of the game. There is no dancing around the fact that this lineup is geared towards fans of the high-octane, high-BPM music that is Electronic Dance. Featuring artists with unique sounds within the EDM umbrella, like House and Dubstep acts, this festival has a lot of promise.
Seriously, if you live in or near the Midwest, this festival is worth checking out. It’s smaller than its counterparts like Tomorrowland, Ultra, and EDC, but that’s its superpower.
You will have the same major-label DJs in a more intimate setting. It’s the perfect formula for a killer rave.
With several brand activations, food stalls, an amazing fanbase, and a sweet lineup, this festival has it all.
Check out the Roller Disco, presented by Corona, while waiting for your favorite DJ to take the Main Stage. The Silent Disco by White Claw also sounds like a fun time. There is so much to do and see, like the Launchpad, a second stage dedicated to the music you love.
There’s going to be plenty of art, music, raving, and more raving. Probably glow sticks and some cool wardrobes too. While the atmosphere is going to be insane, the lineup is the real reason this festival is worth checking out.
Let’s explore some of the artists that we are most excited to see at Breakaway Kansas City!
Friday July 14th
4B – The Trap-Dubstep DJ has worked with some awesome artists like DJ Diesel (Shaq) and Austin Mahone. He brings an upbeat sound, while still bringing intense energy and killer beat drops. Excited to see where he takes his craft next.
Elohim – The electro-pop artist is next-level talented. Her sound is not as in your face as some of the other artists in the EDM world. It’s a slow build, one with patience and careful execution. When the time is right, she brings immense energy and passion, while wholeheartedly walking along the musical journey with you.
Gashi – Super chill, while staying upbeat and exciting; Gashi has a unique sound. It’s flowy and laid-back. He maneuvers between genres very easily, while staying true to his base and roots. His massive hit single, “Creep on Me (feat. French Montana),” has about 150 million streams on Spotify alone.
Hippie Sabotage – With billions of streams on Spotify and YouTube, this DJ duo (brothers Kevin and Jeff Saurer) are a staple at big festivals like Lollapalooza, Electric Zoo, and Bonnaroo. They just dropped their latest album, Trailblazer, which turned out to be an amazing project. They clearly took some risks in the album, and I wholeheartedly think it paid off. It’s unique in its craft and execution and it just works so well. Check out their set on Friday.
Gryffin – One of the most prolific artists in the world of electric-pop, Gryffin is a wizard when running the decks. He knows how to control a crowd so well. Constantly keeping the energy up, the crowd excited, and the music elevated. His massive hits, “Tie Me Down” and “Feel Good”, are always a hit when playing at the club. They sound even better in a festival setting, I guarantee it.
Zedd – One of the greatest electronic-pop producers alive. His global hit, “The Middle”, was one of the most played songs of 2018, earning Zedd three Grammy-nominations. This is a must-see set!
Saturday July 15th
Dr. Fresch – If you see this guy on a festival lineup, you know the party is legit. A real raver’s DJ. This guy has some insane progressions and drops. He builds the tension masterfully and brings you to a high-level before dropping the beat. Definitely check out his set!
it’s murph – This young DJ is on the rise for good reasons. He manages to craft unique beats and style in a congested genre. With mellow vibes and hard beat drops, his flow is truly amazing. Highly recommend you check out his set. It’s going to be one of the most unique ones all weekend!
Liquid Stranger – One of the most unique DJs in the game. He somehow mixes so many genres and subgenres together effectively. It is truly impressive. Heavy Bass, Dubstep, Psychedelic, and so many more. Liquid Stranger has been doing this for a long time. He’s a master at his craft, and an amazing guide for beginner ravers and veterans alike.
RL Grime – If you were in college in the last few years, you heard his hit single “UCLA” at a party, I’m sure of it. It’s contagious and so easy to sing along to. His Saturday set is going to be fun. Less of a rave, and more like a house party. Should be epic!
Griz – In my opinion, one of the greatest living DJs. He has one of the most unique sounds in the entire world of EDM. With saxophone heavy beats and next-level funky builds and drops, Griz is seriously a must-see act anytime he comes to town, which sadly is going to be rare soon. Griz just recently announced a hiatus from touring and producing, so this is one of your last opportunities for a while to see the game-changing producer!
