I’d say it’s easy for me to quit most things, but I can’t quit you.

Sometimes being direct is the best mode of action, and that’s why Colton Dixon leaves it all on the table in his sleek new single. An achingly honest outpouring, “Can’t Quit You” finds the pop singer/songwriter spilling his soul in a cool, sleek, and seductive ode to his wife. I’d say it’s easy for me
To quit most things
But I can’t quit you
I could give it up
And go my own way
But I can’t follow through
Every time I think about us
Think about the reasons why
I know it’s time for giving up on
giving up I gotta try
I’d say it’s easy for me
To quit most things
But I can’t quit you

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Can’t Quit You,” the first love song of Colton Dixon’s career and the final single off the 28-year-old’s upcoming self-titled EP – his first with legendary major label Atlantic Records. Perhaps best known as one of the contestants on American Idol’s 11th Season in 2012, Dixon has been actively making music throughout the past decade, growing in breadth, style, and depth throughout three impressive albums that built upon one another, all while highlighting Dixon’s creative and vocal prowess.

Dixon’s latest EP captures, in a concise format, the artist’s maturity – not to mention his ability to express a lot, with relatively little (which, if we’re being frank, is a life skill we’re all working on, musically or otherwise). The catchy, dynamic first two singles “Devil Is a Liar” and breakout hit “Miracles” have not only been well-received, but also proved exceptional highlights of the young artist’s musical career – and “Can’t Quit You,” written with Grant Averill and Alex Tirheimer, is no exception. The song is released alongside an intimate music video that captures the magic of Dixon and his wife Annie’s connection. We feel that intimate magic first-hand as we watch the bleach-blonde artist sing in front of a projector screen:

“I’m so glad we were able to give everyone a bird’s eye-view of my wife, Annie and my journey in the new video,” Dixon tells Atwood Magazine. “Relationships are a gift. No matter the challenges that life brings, one thing that’s certain for us is that we will never stop choosing to love one another. This is the first love song I’ve released, and a fun pop song to write both sonically and lyrically. It feels fitting that this song anchors my new EP release as it shows the journey I’ve not only been on in life, but also in music, too.”

No matter the challenges that life brings, one thing that’s certain for us is that we will never stop choosing to love one another.

If I’m being honest
I’m thinking of turning off the lights
Throwing the towel in
And going back to my old life
But there’s something about you
And I can’t seem to get this feeling
Off my mind
Out my mind
Moments fade
And seasons change
But I keep coming back to you
I know some days
I lose my way
But I keep coming back to you

Love songs are always a challenge – the artist must negotiate their own personal experience with millions of songs expressing the same universal sentiment, each one with its own take and underlying special story. Dixon’s songwriting is specific for him and Annie, yet vague enough for us listeners to apply in our own lives: It fits the love song mold while once again breaking it.

With Colton Dixon out on May 15th, “Can’t Quit You” proves yet another exciting addition to this left-of-center pop artist’s ever-growing catalog; A dance number and heart-on-sleeve overhaul all in one, Colton Dixon’s first love song proves a success.

It’s never been easy
Thinking I wouldn’t get it right
On to the next thing
That’s all different this time
There’s something bout you
And I can’t seem to get this feeling
Out my mind
