Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Jeffers Insley returned after a three-year hiatus in late April with his fourth career single “Honey,” an intimate and stripped-back piano ballad that is intimate as it is striking.

Tender vocals caress a driving piano motif, plunging deep into an otherworldly plane of intimacy. Insley takes his time with his expressions, leaving space for the track’s raw quality to shine through like a dream.

Basking in its reverie, “Honey” is the latest single to come from the LA-based singer-songwriter. Insley describes the conception of this track as arriving to him in a moment of decided clarity. Emerging as if from a dream, Insley describes how the line “Honey can you make this feeling last” arrived to him, and would later become the hook of the track.

With lush arrangements fronting piano melodies, string accompaniments, and Insley’s emotive vocals, the track shines in its ability to plunge you deeper into his world, maintaining a wave of familiarity and dreaminess that washes over you in the quiet. To Insley, writing this song was like an “excavation,” where he got to unearth fragments of memory, dreams, and the passage of time.

He shares, “more than any other song I’ve written, I think ‘Honey’ captures something vivid and puts you in that room. It feels more like I found the song than wrote it, which allows me to love it with a sense of detachment.”

This sense of channeling that played in the song’s conception is clear in the production quality, where tonalities of piano seem to creep up on you slowly, familiarly, then all at once. As the track builds on itself, the musicalities begin to rise, and the soundscape bursts forth to reveal itself in a wave of unabashed emotion.

“Honey” stands as Insley’s return to music since his last project in 2021.

“Honey” is rich, heartfelt, and emotive, representing a new chapter for the artist. As a piano player of over 20 years, the latest single showcases Insley’s unique ability to utilise the instrument within his songwriting, weaving together strings of feeling, vulnerability and purpose.

“Honey” departs greatly from his previous works, now showcasing the tender side of Insley and his musical expanse.
