Sunday, the day just before Monday.

Sundays are typically known as lazy Sundays, a day of rest and relaxation. Being right before Monday though, it also breeds life to the Sunday scaries, as we get ready to go back into the workweek, questioning our entire existence. KTJ & CARLY have crafted a warm and woodsy single entitled “Sundays.” The track is a delicate narration of reemerging post breakup. The emotive piece possesses a melancholy, capturing that sorrow of Sunday blues. Everything changes at a relationship’s end and it can be tough to navigate that new landscape.

This place looks different than you remember
Fires out, you didn’t leave an ember
Folding the new sheets you never slept on
I used to be okay with being alone

KTJ & CARLY are a twin songwriting/musician duo that constructs intoxicating releases, and they’re already a mainstay of our pages: Atwood Magazine has featured past releases of theirs, such as their recently released EP NUKETOWN and singles like “Shitty People” and “Hidden.” The twosome’s deep vulnerability shines through in all of their work. Listeners connect to that bare intimacy, and their newest offering provides that same passion.

Pacing through a vacant hall
No more paintings on the wall

The stirring track features acclaimed guitarist Zane Carney (John Mayer, EVAN + ZANE). Lush vocals drift over dreamy acoustic guitar as sisters Katie and Carly Haynes sing of an intense anxiety felt deep inside. Sunday, a day often enjoyed when in the partnership, has now gone back to being a time that is dreaded. “Sundays” is a profound exploration of that transition.

It never was my favorite day
You made me like it anyway
I’m doing fine but when week ends I shift

“Sundays” is perfectly timed in its release. It evokes the feeling of winter, cozy by the fire yet the message breathes a cold and icy sadness. The bold, ballad beautifully swells, and we are lost in the bewitching quality. After just one listen you will never see Sundays the same again – and it’s all thanks to KTJ & CARLY.
