We often write about the fact that love, unlike in the movies, doesn’t hit you over the head or magically occur within a cursory glance and a fleeting meeting of the eyes: It’s a connection that is fostered over time, that requires hard work and dedication, support and nurturing.

Except, sometimes it does hit you over the head: Sometimes love actually is more like you see in the movies, as we hear and feel through Australian duo MINIQ’s entrancing new single. A smoldering, seductive love song, “Space Cowboy” offers a cinematic take on an unexpected, thrilling romance – the kind that sweeps you off your feet.

Space Cowboy – MINIQ
No can do, got right out of it not ready to commit
Then I met you, take a little risk just give me a kiss
Now you’re giving me a tour, checking out the view
Get a little closer
Now we’re standing in the room lit up by the moon
It’s taking over

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Space Cowboy,” the sophomore single from Australian newcomers MINIQ. The indie rock duo of sisters Isabelle and Dominique Morgan, MINIQ hail from NSW Central Coast and shot into the world earlier this year with their debut single “Little Miss No. 1,” a compelling wash of harmony, lush melody, and fervent overdrive. The track saw support from the likes of Pilerats, Project U, Australian community radio, and more, and it remains a solid introduction to a duo who exude drive and passion every step of the way.

“Space Cowboy” makes for a cinematic addition to MINIQ’s still nascent repertoire, showcasing the band in a slower but just as enticing environment as its predecessor. A song of unanticipated romance, the song immerses listeners in a story of allure with an edge of mystique:

Well I thought that I didn’t want anyone
Well I never thought I’d end up here with a
Space cowboy – Underneath the stars
Space cowboy – In orbit round my heart
Space cowboy – Yeah you just pick me up
Oh and I-I-I don’t know if I’ll, don’t know if I’ll ever get enough

“I was in a pretty toxic relationship that I finally ended and with no intention I met this Space Cowboy who swept me off my feet,” lead singer Dominque Morgan tells Atwood Magazine. “Space Cowboy was his nickname because he was always getting loose and partying hard and for that reason, I thought that when we met it was nothing serious. In my head, he was hot and I was single but now, two years later here we are running a business together, saving for a house and are happy as Larry.“

Take the shot, give me what you got colour in the dots
Lift me up, candle in the dark you were like a shooting star
Well I thought that I didn’t want anyone
Well I never thought I’d end up here with a
Space cowboy – Underneath the stars
Space cowboy – In orbit round my heart
Space cowboy – Yeah you just pick me up
Oh, and I-I-I don’t know if I’ll, don’t know if I’ll ever get enough

Produced and mixed by Simon Dobson (Bootleg Rascal, Little May, Stupid Baby) and mastered by Brian Lucey (Arctic Monkeys, The Kills, The Black Keys), “Space Cowboy” is drenched in reverb; the song dwells in its feelings, fostering these conflicting feelings of lust, uncertainty, desire, and thrill all at once. Reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys or Lord Huron’s latest album, this kind of tempered approach feels especially dramatic given the subject matter, and helps in making MINIQ’s sophomore offering a success.

With more to come in 2021, MINIQ are slowly setting themselves up as an up-and-coming force in New South Wales. Stream the duo’s new song exclusively on Atwood Magazine, and follow their socials for more updates and future new music!

Making me feel like the only one that you want
Space cowboy I just can’t get enough you pick me up
Thought I’d seen it all, nearly given up, then low and behold
You’re giving me a call catch me when I fall
Yeah you show me love
Space cowboy – Underneath the stars
Space cowboy – In orbit round my heart
Space cowboy – Yeah you just pick me up
Oh, and I-I-I don’t know if I’ll, don’t know if I’ll ever get enough
