I was drawn to the phenomenon of bloodless cattle mutilation as a metaphor for self-extraction – this clinical pursuit of emptiness.

2025 is set to be a big year for singer/songwriter Samia.

The recent Minneapolis transplant has burst headfirst into the new year with “Bovine Excision,” a track that deftly introduces audiences to the thematic shadows set to be explored in her new project.

Leading with abstract songwriting and acoustic guitar melodies, “Bovine Excision” builds on the rise and fall of a prolonged thought.

Diet Dr Pepper, Raymond Carver
Sitting in the bathtub
while they’re knocking

I wanna be untouchable
I wanna be untouchable
You took the door off its hinges
Doll eyes red in the litmus
I felt the pea, can I eat it?
I felt the pea, can I eat it?

Metaphorically, the new single reflects on the idea of being a vessel, drawing inspiration from the phenomenon of bloodless cattle mutilation. Samia uses this as a symbolism for self-extraction, and she shares in her own words, “this clinical pursuit of emptiness.”

She expands on this idea in “Bovine Excision,” embodying the status of infinite possibility, yet unattainable projection. As she croons in the hook, “I wanna be untouchable,” crashing instrumentals fall all around her, waiting to heighten her again, as she ruminates, “I wanna be impossible.”

Samia Is the Moment with Highly Anticipated Sophomore Album ‘Honey’

Alongside the single release comes the announcement of Bloodless, Samia’s third album.

Out April 25th via Grand Jury, the record promises new strides in Samia’s storytelling arcs; drawing inspiration from fantasy, mystery, and the unexplained. With longtime collaborators – and respected musicians in their own right – Caleb Wright and Jake Luppen (of Hippo Campus) on production, Samia is also joined by songwriting partners Christian Lee Hutson and Raffaella for the new record.

Picking leeches off white underwear
Neck, back, inscrutable stare
I wanna be impossible
I wanna be impossible
Fred flirts with the bartender
“We met last year here, remember?”
She says, “I’m old but I’m not dead”

Samia’s usual themes of belonging and changing in her songwriting are now set to take a complex turn in this new chapter. Delving into the allure of fantasy, her spirituality, and impossible femininity, Samia’s recent years in music have only given her more material with which to draw from.

She shares, “I noticed a pattern in my life of wanting to live up to the person I became in someone’s head; you become a lot bigger with distance.”

With this latest single, however, Samia is indeed sweeping across our sonic skylines, untouchable and impossible.

Rice wine, lime-flavored Lays
Passing go to sit in driveways
Clad in leopard, clutch the banister
Twirling like a Degas dancer
I just wanted to be your friend
Cup of tea in your cold hand
And drained, drained bloodless
And drained, drained bloodless…
