Whether it’s slow RnB, upbeat pop, or spacey hip-hop, WHERE IS ELA continues to push herself to deliver something fresh for audiences new and old.

Her latest release “I Wanna Ride” (independent, June 29) features glitchy synths with a rich tone that set the soundscape before booming 808s fill up the track. With effortless falsetto, Ela blurs the line between rapping and singing as she starts the track.

When talking about the lyrics of the track, Ela tells Atwood Magazine, “It’s not meant to be taken seriously.” The ethos of the song is fun. The adrenaline mixed with anxiety that you feel when you meet someone new. Lyrics like “I gotta touch some grass” really prove how you can make a great song with lyrics that don’t take themselves too seriously.

The track builds into a euphoric chorus with Ela’s ethereal vocals stealing the show. The melody soars over the instrumental as the lyrics “I wanna ride” guide listeners into a world of sonic bliss. Like her previous work, Ela is able to imbue “I Wanna Ride” with sweet ear candy that will have audiences hooked by their first listen.

The bridge slows things down as sweeping vocal melodies carry listeners into another dimension. Just before you can get lost in it, she comes back hard with the last chorus that leads into an outro that leaves you wanting more.

A quick glimpse at WHERE IS ELA’s artist bio reveals two words that perfectly encapsulate her sound: Genre-fluid.

Though she’s not one to shy away from 808-filled trap beats (“Calling You” and her feature on J-ON’s “DON’T”), “I WANNA RIDE” is a whole new sound. Her openness to sonic experimentation speaks to (and highlights) her abilities as a musician. Daring to outdo herself with each new track truly shows that WHERE IS ELA can do whatever she wants, however she wants with her music. Coming out at the peak of summer, this track is destined to become a club classic.

WHERE IS ELA is a solo project, based in Boston, Massachusetts.
