Whenever I’m feeling impatient in life, I always try to remind myself that timing is everything, and in the end, the universe’s timing has always proved much better than mine.

You’d be forgiven for pressing play on Rodeo Parade and thinking you’ve been transported back to the 1970s.

The nascent musical project from New England-based singer/songwriter Wesley Jensen is undeniably warm and nostalgic, while simultaneously fresh and modern. A self-described fan of “legendary songwriters and vintage pop,” Jensen – formerly of Wesley Jensen and The Penny Arcade and bedroom pop ‘band’ Parachuter (both of whom have featured on Atwood over the years) – debuted Rodeo Parade earlier this year with the lush and lilting single “The Night,” a duet with Kinsey Lee (of LA-based indie band The Wild Reeds). A five-track debut EP, I’m Still Learning, soon followed in July; the record highlights Jensen’s proclivity toward sweet melodies, vivid storytelling, and enchanting folk instrumentation.

And yet, nowhere does Jensen / Rodeo Parade’s inner light shine more boldly and brightly than on the artist’s latest single: A dreamy, romantic reverie with a classic, folk-soaked soft rock sound, “Seasons Waiting” is a timeless love song celebrating the adventure of a lifetime – a journey that starts with meeting the right person, at the right place, at the right time.

So much goes into making that special, life-changing moment, and the sparks that follow, happen. This song is a celebration of all that leads us to our loves, and in a way; the factors that culminate in two hearts and souls becoming one.

Seasons Waiting - Rodeo Parade by Silas Orion
Seasons Waiting – Rodeo Parade
Where we walked, the same old place
Rivers and the lakes
I never knew your name
But did I ever see your face?
The more we changed we stayed
the same, seasons waiting
Gospels and broken hearts
Got hard to tell apart
Cafes and dirty bars
Our schoolyards in the dark
We could leave but never get too far
Seasons waiting

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Seasons Waiting,” a soul-stirring and smile-inducing soundtrack to falling in love. Brought to life with a slew of organic instruments – including acoustic guitars and what sounds like a Mellotron – Rodeo Parade’s latest single is full of passion and tenderness, raw humanity and genuine appreciation. The song was recorded and engineered at Dirt Floor by Elijah Novicky with Guido Falivene, and features Jensen on vocals, guitar, and keyboards, accompanied by Eric M Lichter (drums/percussion, bass, guitars, keys) and Novicky on guitar.

For Jensen, this song exemplifies the artistry he’s hoping Rodeo Parade can exemplify as he pours his unadulterated self into this project.

“‘Seasons Waiting’ is about meeting the right person at the right time and everything we go through to lead us to that exact moment – the good, the bad, and everything in between,” he tells Atwood Magazine. “My wife and I grew up in the same small town in Northern California, we ran in very similar circles and did all the same things, but we didn’t actually meet until we were in our twenties. I often think about all the times we must have walked by one another, or been in the same places or rooms together and didn’t even know it. It’s wild. We lived completely different existences in very similar spaces until we eventually met, like something out of a romantic comedy.”

“And on that note, just like in ‘You’ve Got Mail’ (shameless guilty pleasure), we both needed that time to have everything unfold in our lives EXACTLY as it did or there’s a very good chance we wouldn’t have worked out. ‘Every scar, bruise and boulevard, led us right to where we are…I wouldn’t change a thing.‘ Not to get too ‘woo-woo,’ but whenever I’m feeling impatient in life, I always try to remind myself that timing is everything, and in the end, the universe’s timing has always proved much better than mine.”

Jensen shines his brightest in the song’s spellbinding chorus – a beautifully saccharine, authentically endearing moment of reflection and revelry, basking in the warmth and wonder of love:

Strangers in another life
Fell hard at the right time
Every scar, bruise and boulevard
Led us right to where we are
Feel the mist that kissed your face
Where rock and wave embrace
We shared our favorite place
To hide our dreams away
The more we changed we stayed
the same, seasons waiting

Who can ultimately say how, when, or where love will strike?

We are not alone in deciding our fate, but “Seasons Waiting” captures the mysterious, glorious magic of the universe. Call it kismet, call it a higher power – but by some grace, millions of us find love every year; the world brings us together, crossing our paths at exactly the right time, such that we look up, connect, and begin building something new.

The air hits like a drug
To make you come undone
The redwood high above
Shows what we could become
Stretching through the fog
and touching sun,

seasons waiting
I wouldn’t change a thing
