Even on the most wind-turbulent days, the weather can surprise us with a new current, while guiding us into a new direction we are meant to discover.

Los Angeles-based artist Jade Bird shares clarity through the changes in love dynamics in the single “Dreams,” as she aviates to a new sky, proclaiming her independence through her heartbreak, grief, and renewed self-reliant perspective in her songwriting on her third album, Who Wants To Talk About Love, released July 18 via  Glassnote Records.

Every waking moment, we choose how to endure our changes and the direction we can cope with, within each challenge we endure in the face of heartbreak. Jade Bird delivers an unwavering sound, a harmonious resonance through her powerful vocals, with the added bonus that the tune was also produced by Grammy-winner Greg Kurstin, which supports her true folk-infused, Americana nature through every acoustic note she delivers. A tune enriched with powerful hammer-down strums, she casts a bold influence on her performance throughout the song, welcoming listeners to a new awareness with every steady beat.

There’s nothing good and nothing fun
about trying to love someone
Who can’t seem to do anything but stand and fight
Is this what dreams are made of?
Driving on a beautiful day while you’re falling apart
Is this what dreams are made of
Being so in love, you can only break their heart

As listeners drive on a sunny day, with windows down, their hearts open, and eyes on the road ahead, there is a redeeming quality to the tonality of the song, even amidst the heavy points in the ballad. Jade’s take on her “Dreams” is shared as a “very dark song. I saw a billboard driving to the studio after a bit of a nasty breakdown. I’d gone to sleep at five am the night before and read ‘this is what dreams are made of’. Combined with the LA sun, I felt a deep irony. It’s about feeling too broken to be with the person you love. Pushing them away because of generational habits and (I don’t like the word) trauma.”

Facing a clouded sky, Jade Bird brightens her atmosphere with an optimistic anthem for reclaiming happiness within a spirit of self-sufficiency, shifting the current of the wind she endures.

Anticipating the darkness, shaped by the circumstances we face, and how humans translate that pain through lived experiences, is a driving force that pushes and beckons listeners to keep pushing the limits of the skies presented. Jade Bird achieves this message to others by offering to weather away the idea of the friction we can create in our minds, as the only way out is through. She generates a new wind in “Dreams” to clarify, uplift, and persevere the spirit.
