London-based singer/songwriter Gabriela Eva embraces the moment in the groovy “HEY!” – a jazzy, soulful song full of life and a deep appreciation for today.

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering the music video for “HEY!,” Gabriela Eva’s latest single (released September 2019). A British artist with a strong message for progressive action, sustainability, and positive change, Eva debuted last year with the grooving song “Rise Up,” shortly followed by her debut EP. “HEY!” is her first release of 2019, and finds her returning with a juicy feelgood anthem full of funky warmth and sunny appreciation for life and love.

Directed by Eva herself, the “HEY!” music video is a wondrous one-shot video shot against a beautiful natural landscape at sundown. “I always wanted to design a one take video, as I found them captivating…yes this music video is one take. My plan was to create a live intimate vibe, that was creative and playful – like the movement of my guitar – to hold your attention though a simple one-take performance,” Eva tells Atwood Magazine. “I’ve been obsessed with long shots for years. The moody sky and slightly dulled colours reflect the mood of the lyrics, ending on a positive with a clear sky and a yellow smoke bomb. We used a ‘film’ effect to give it a vintage feel for that stable edge and the beautiful mirroring frame, suggests the idea of a magical place, in Leyton. We had a lot of fun choreographing the dance routine and it took a while to find the right dancers. I studied fashion and used to make my own garments so I’m quite particular when it comes to finding the right pieces… I love the looks from ethical fashion brand Loom Loop for her quirky Hong Kong designs and feel the look compliments my sound, utterly.”

Then you fell inside
My conscience your trying to justify
The artist continues, “Time is so precious and worth more than gold, as technology distracts us and eats up our time…funnily enough we also ran out of time shooting ‘HEY!’. The sky was entering twilight and the light fading and we took the last shot early evening with the full moon watching over us but then had some post production issues. This created gorgeous silhouettes that we fell in love with and I’ve since learnt that I’m not superwoman and need a producer in the future. But art becomes art when you leave it, so I decided not to re-shoot it and rolled with the raw take. And I love it, I hope you do also.”
Gabriela Eva’s career is very much beginning, and yet her music already resonates with a certain timeless charm: Beautifully honest, sweet, and moving, it’s the kind of soundtrack that lifts our spirits forever higher.
