An undeniable sense of hard-won liberation emanates throughout ANIQO’s charismatic new single, sinking deep, deep down to the bones. It’s the musical manifestation of emotional unshackling; the kind of upheaval that leads to freedom, but that may bend and even break you along the way. A feverish and hard-hitting release, “Vivre Libre” roars with radiant redemption and passion as the artist reclaims her story with grace and verve. It’s poignant; it’s aching; and ultimately, it’s unapologetically free.
How long I’ve been swimming
Wingless driven
Dance over the gorge
Black hole
Suction of the ego
Circulation of thoughts
Quite excessive – the moral source
Addiction above the now
But slowly in distance
Hey – there is the mainland
And while I am still swimming
The eyes to the shore
I stretch my wings
Brave and gentle to the sail
As soft as a feather
This is the me
Waiting for the right wind to come
Across the storm
Here I am!
Released March 4, 2022 via SPRINGSTOFF, “Vivre Libre” is the latest single off ANIQO’s forthcoming debut album BIRTH, set to release later this month. The artist moniker for Berlin-based artist Anita Goß, ANIQO’s music churns with the kind of depth that is often unseen, but felt in our gut. This is certainly the case for “Vivre Libre,” which employs exceptional poetic imagery alongside Goß’s own stunning vocal performance to convey her raw vulnerability, conviction, and the transition from heavy darkness to a state of bright, unburdened weightlessness. A contemplative verse spills into a stunning release as ANIQO rises valiantly in her chorus:
Vivre Libre
Vivre Libre
This is the curtain
The final season…
“‘Vivre Libre’ is the opening song on my upcoming album BIRTH, but at the same time and metaphorically it is also the end,” ANIQO explains. “The single sums up what BIRTH is about – the emergence from darkness, inner and outer struggles – it’s about resurrection in every sense of the word – the rising up, the goal in sight. Imagine you have been drifting on the ocean for years, almost drowning, without strength. This moment when you see land again – that is VIVRE LIBRE and the knowledge that you can make it, that you can do anything, that you are free.”
It’s the rush; the charge; the charisma and wherewithal to push forward, confident and ready for what awaits you next. Diving deeper, ANIQO shares more about her upcoming album and all that it means to her:
“BIRTH stands at the beginning of all things,” she says. “The journey began 6 years ago for me as both ANIQO and the creation of the album. BIRTH symbolises the process of making the decision to fundamentally change my life and at the same time the path to the inner core… It’s about healing and releasing dark places both inside and outside, breaking down fears and stuck thought structures, loss and the necessity to surrender with self-love. It is an album that wants to light the way through the darkest hours. It will hold your hand during resurrection and transformation.”
Hey there is the coastline
The eyes to the shore
I stretch my wings
Brave and gentle to the sail
As soft as a feather
This is the me
Waiting for the right wind to come
Over the Sea
Across the storm
There is the light
Here I am! Here I am! Here I am!
Vivre Libre, vivre Libre
This is the curtain
The final season…
There’s something remarkable about hearing someone else meet their personal moment of reckoning, and break on through to the other side. “Vivre Libre” is intense, and that intensity is exactly what makes it so exciting, meaningful, and ultimately, filled with beauty.
