I get the job done / Yes, ma’am, yes, I do / You’re welcome…

Chappell Roan has delivered another impressive, amusing, and undeniable anthem in “The Giver.”

A milestone for the artist, “The Giver” marks Chappell Roan’s first foray into the country genre, stepping away from the nostalgic ’80s and ’90s pop influences that defined songs like “Good Luck, Babe!” and “Pink Pony Club.” Having grown up surrounded by country music in her hometown of Willard, Missouri, Roan knows how to craft an authentic country single while making it distinctly her own.

The Giver – Chappell Roan
Ain’t got antlers on my walls
But I sure know mating calls
From the stalls in the bars
on a Friday night

And other boys may need a map
But I can close my eyes
And have you wrapped around
my fingers like that

Though her upbringing was traditional, the 26-year-old Midwest princess spent her teenage years and early twenties cultivating a flamboyant, over-the-top aesthetic – one that shines through in her critically acclaimed debut studio album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (released in September 2023). As an artist who openly embraces a queer and inclusive culture – not just in her personal identity, but in her work – this country-inspired single comes with a unique twist: It’s a bold, sapphic love song.

So, baby
When you need the job done
You can call me, baby
‘Cause you ain’t got to tell me
It’s just in my nature
So take it like a taker
‘Cause, baby, I’m a giver
Ain’t no need to hurry
‘Cause, baby, I deliver
Ain’t no country boy quitter
I get the job done
I get the job done

“The Giver” is another confident embrace and celebration of the queer themes that have become a hallmark of Roan’s artistry.

And other boys may need a map, but I can close my eyes and have you wrapped around my finger like that,” she sings hot on the mic, delivering a passionate declaration of devotion. The song is theatrical, spontaneous, and rock-infused, layered with unmistakable Western influences. Not only does it introduce fans to a new sonic side of Roan, but it also carries a message of joy, freedom, and the power of honoring her past while forging something entirely fresh.

Girl, I don’t need no lifted truck
Revvin’ loud to pick you up
‘Cause how I look is how I touch
And in this strip-mall town of dreams
Good luck finding a man who has the means
To rhinestone cowgirl all night long

The “HOT TO GO!” singer debuted “The Giver” on Saturday Night Live‘s November 2nd episode, but waited four more months before officially releasing it. Since The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and last year’s Good Luck, Babe! this is her only new music, teased through billboards across the U.S. and social media posts. On Instagram, she shared her nerves about releasing a full-fledged country song after achieving major success in the pop realm:

“It is def a bold and scary move to release a full ass country song after only releasing one song last year and it having such a success in the pop genre .. (like I am very scared as I type this lol) but I think that’s the entire point of Chappell Roan. Be bold and scary and have fun. Be popstar girl then pop an edible + watch YouTube vibes. The whole point of this is to be silly!!!”

So, baby
If you never had one
Call me, baby, yeah
‘Cause you ain’t gotta tell me
It’s just in my nature
So take it like a taker
‘Cause, baby, I’m a giver
Ain’t no need to hurry
‘Cause, baby, I deliver
Ain’t no country boy quitter
I get the job done
I get the job done

While many artists, including Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran, have dabbled in country music – often drawn to the genre’s rich storytelling tradition – Chappell Roan’s approach feels instinctive and authentic.

She makes it fun, dynamic, and theatrical, while staying completely true to herself. For some, this shift feels natural; for others, unexpected.

Either way, Roan remarkably gets the job done – proving yet again that she can master any genre she sets her sights on.

‘Cause you ain’t gotta tell me
It’s just in my nature
So take it like a taker
‘Cause, baby, I’m a giver
Ain’t no need to hurry
‘Cause, baby, I deliver
Ain’t no country boy quitter
I get the job done
I get the job done
I get the job done
Yes, ma’am, yes, I do
You’re welcome
