Danna Paola has illuminated the pop stratosphere over the past two years as she stands on her global stage.
The Mexican multi-hyphenate’s latest single “XT4S1S,” released on August 11, 2022, is a late summer ecstatic party sensation that will linger well into the autumn for her millions of fans and followers around the world. Over these recent years she has cemented herself as an unequivocal creative and musical transnational and cross-cultural global force that was highlighted through her early 2021 sixth studio album K.O. that spawned a series of spellbinding hits in such tracks as “Calla Tú,” “Amor Ordinario,” “No Bailes Sola” with Sebastian Yatra, and “Friend De Semana” with Luísa Sonza and Aitana.
Quiero volver a verte
En mis labios tenerte
La tentación me eleva
Y me dan ganas de volverte a probar, eh eh
Carita de inocente
Pero nada obediente
Sé qué tienes en mente
Y entre tanto ruido quiero aceptar, yeah
No sé cómo llegué a ti
Adicta me volví
Paola entirely revisioned herself as a Mexican pop princess from her beginnings as a child/teen music star and actress through her 2020 LP Sie7e+ in such hits as “Mala Fama” and “Sodio.” In K.O. she became a global pop princess, and since then a series of remarkably dazzling singles and collaborations have dominated the airwaves in such songs as “Nada,” “Sólo Quédate En Silencio,” “Cachito,” “Kaprichosa,” and in the glittering summer of 2021—the kaleidoscopic delight of “Mía” which also nods to Karol G’s global anthem “Tusa.”
Before her fame or mala fama on this level, Paola had already been highly immersed in the realms of acting on screen and stage, modeling, fashion design, and singing since the age of four. Perhaps, the critical turning point for her was being cast as Elphaba in the Spanish-language production of the Broadway musical Wicked in México City. As they say, the rest is cultural history.
Her new song “XT4S1S” follows her own trending cultural dominance as a musical transnational ingénue on the global stage. Her global dominance in music was also in part sparked through her role as Lucrecia “Lu” Montesinos on Netflix’s hit Spanish series Élite, however that was also a very difficult time for her. In her song “Amor Ordinario” on K.O., she sang about a love that she wanted to be extraordinary, but it became ruined to her just like her time in Madrid. Recently, she has also been the highly unfortunate focus of body shaming in interviews and on social media. She herself does not want to speak about her body, and it’s certainly time that this problematic attention needs to end immediately.
Today, she is channeling all her creativity and vision into her music in becoming her own extraordinary self that has been liberated, in standing as an immensely powerful voice of liberation for peoples of all backgrounds, genders, and orientations.
It could be suggested that Paola has been influenced by the likes of such Mexican artists as RBD, Belanova, Kabah, Paulina Rubio, Timbiriche, OV7, Sentidos Opuestos, and Thalía, but then again she has definitively set herself as worlds apart through her transnational global positioning, the innovation in how she approaches her music/lyricism, and the generations of difference that make her so new and fresh.
“XT4S1S” was written and produced by Danna Paola and Alex Hoyer, and she herself said in a statement: “This release is the sincerest of my career — for the first time, I’m not guided by what people will say, nor by pleasing anyone, I’m just enjoying connecting with myself when creating music, to enjoy with the people who want to connect. Today I live my music at 1000 percent.”
El piso me da vueltas (me da vuelta’)
Y estoy viendo violeta, ay (ah, ah, ah, ah)
Ya estoy en la segunda vuelta
Y mis sentidos van a explotar, yeah, eh
No sé cómo llegué a ti
Adicta me volví
Danna Paola’s music makes one feel incredibly alive in dancing throughout the night, and in reflecting on life and love.
There is always a lucid and sparkling emotional freshness in her music that is equally reflected in her highly polished and captivating videos. As she continues to extend and deepen her global reach the future only looms brightly for the remarkable trajectory of her stratospheric career as a global pop princess. “XT4S1S” is the song we all need to feel our own extraordinary forms of self-liberation and ecstasy in the depths of the night. I’m tending to think that all that Paola touches begins to glitter, but that’s just me.
Baby, set me free
Come and fly with me
Make me feel good
(oh, how you make me feel, yeah)
Make me feel good, you make me feel good
Make me feel good, make me feel good
Make me feel good
