Released April 25 via Fast Friends / AWAL, “When the Day Is Done” is an intoxicating, irresistible smile-inducing soundtrack to sunny days and cozy nights. The third single taken off grentperez’s forthcoming EP When We Were Younger (out June 2) finds the Sydney-based 21-year-old dwelling in the sublime ease and innocence of his youth, embracing a happy nostalgia as he conjures up moments of connection, joy, support, and serenity both past and present.
A gentle, bouncing rhythm section and glistening, frisky guitars bring a kinetic funk-soul sound to life as Grant Perez sings a soaring melody, his golden vocals a radiant beacon of unbridled love and cheer – especially in the song’s captivating singalong chorus:

“’When The Day Is Done’, to me is the perfect track to clean your house to… or dance, if you dance. My parents like the song, but so do my friends, so I guess everyone can clean their house,” Perez chuckles, a twinkle in his eye. “I wrote this song trying to create a timeless classic that the whole family can listen to, or as my dad would say, ‘The song I can dance to.’ This track embodies the line ‘there’s no place like home,’ stating that when all is said and done, I just want to get back home, and that feeling of family having your back no matter where you are lingers throughout the song.”
Perez goes full disco-soul on this song, channeling his love out in insatiable grooves. Passion-fueled and punchy, “When the Day Is Done” all but begs for us to dance along to its propulsive, unstoppable pulse.

“This is a collection of music each relating to figures of the past, whether it be in love, loss, families and friendship,” Perez says of his upcoming EP. “I felt that during the pandemic, staying inside my room all day made me see that things haven’t been like they used to, in the days of playing games all day and having mum bring food to me because I wasn’t allowed to cook my own meals. I believe that these past two years have been two rather large transitional periods for me, almost like a ‘coming of age’ moment, slowly becoming aware of growing up. This EP sits in a very special place in my heart, and it’s something I could potentially revisit in the future, as the story of life never truly finishes.”
