Nothing compares to the emotional, physical, and spiritual release of freeing yourself from someone toxic: Of reclaiming your happiness and taking the reins in your life. An unfiltered and unapologetic assertion of self-worth, Imogen Clark’s dynamic new single “Nonchalant” soars with passion and charged energy as sets her spirit free. It’s a searing, soaring anthem full of fire and fervor, and a resounding reminder to all that the power really is within us, and it has been all along.
You know I love in absolutes
I wish I knew you loved in IOUs
Left me waiting on the mezzanine
Said when you’re ready you’ll come back for me
I never wanted to be anyone’s
Until the chorus of the slow song
When you say I’m the one that got away
Don’t forget you wanted it that way
I’m not a question mark, not a change of heart
I, I am here and now, are you in or out?
Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Nonchalant,” Imogen Clark’s second single of 2022 following April’s “Enemy,” a stunning return that Guitar Girl Magazine praised as “a cathartic burst of melodic indie rock.”
“Nonchalant” finds the Western Sydney-based singer/songwriter continuing to rouse and excite with another high-energy outpouring. Radiant guitars and feverish drums lay a propulsive foundation, atop which Clark spills her soul with a cinematic scope and emphatic, emotionally charged finesse. Her voice comes to life with vivid strength in a captivating, charismatic chorus:
With you there’s always a someday
Same things said in a new way
I guess you’re too cool to want me enough
Just know I won’t be waiting, you’re so nonchalant
Go ahead, there won’t be a next time
Last dance before the house lights
I used my love up for the both of us
So why should I keep waiting? You’re so nonchalant
Why should I keep waiting? You’re so nonchalant
Dispelling the will-he, won’t-he f*boy from her life, she gives herself a well-deserved opportunity to start over: A chance at the refresh she needs.
“I wrote this song with Sam and Demi Louise at the start of the year, burning with turmoil over this guy who was keeping me on the hook and watching me squirm,” Clark tells Atwood Magazine. “It was tearing me apart and I brought that energy into the session. Every time I’ve played this live, women come up to me and tell me I need to release it, so I decided to get this out there for all the people who need a place to put their feelings about a f***boy in their life.”
You only say my name in the dark
While I kept your name in a neon heart
You had me spinning til I couldn’t see
They were only mirrorball memories
You like to walk the line between wrong and right
And I’m gonna teach you how you should treat me now
“Nonchalant” is a welcome and invigorating anthem: A soul-stirring invitation to rise up against whatever or whoever’s troubling us. Clark’s inspiring voice and vigorous instrumental work prove the perfect vessel for such a galvanizing rallying cry; with her help, we can finally cut the bad apples out and move on with our lives.

Why should I keep waiting?
Why should I keep waiting? You’re so nonchalant
I guess you’re too cool
I guess you don’t want me enough
Oh so sad that you showed me who you are
And I believed in that
With you there’s always a someday
Same things said in a new way
I guess you’re too cool to want me enough
Just know I won’t be waiting, you’re so nonchalant
Go ahead, there won’t be a next time
Last dance before the house lights
I used my love up for the both of us
So why should I keep waiting? You’re so nonchalant
