It was a Friday afternoon
Starry eyed I guess I thought too soon
I know how you feel
If this is real
What do I do?
When that thought of me stayed
Did all those people seem to fade?
Saw you outside
eyes like the seaside
Now I’m here in your arms
And then you said

Released November 10, 2020 via Platoon, “I Left a Party for You” is Pilar Victoria’s third song of 2020 (following the summer demo “Seaside Romantics” and August’s well-received “Space Song”), and her sixth overall release since debuting last summer. A teenager of Argentine-American descent, Victoria imbues in her songs a sincerity and earnestness that flows effortlessly from artist to audience. As adept in an electronic setting as she is in an acoustic one, Victoria is fast emerging as an artist worthy of any indie or pop music lover’s radar.

When it comes to her latest effort, Victoria says, “‘I Left A Party For You’ is pretty self explanatory: It’s a song I wrote about someone who left a party to hangout with me. I wanted to highlight the excitement of that experience and capture that feeling in an upbeat track.”

It’s such a simple concept, and yet through her music and lyrics, Victoria injects a world of emotion into this song. Her chorus is a particularly mesmerizing moment of catharsis, where dreamy vocals melt over a sort of psychedelic submersion of dulcet guitars and layered harmonies.

I left a party for you
Ive been thinking about you too
Stuck in my head
Can’t go to bed
Cause I left a party for you

It’s so much more than the act of leaving an event for someone: It’s about exploring romance for the very first time; it’s about young crushes, and recognizing that moment you realize you have feelings for someone, and they have feelings for you, too. If we think long and hard enough, each of us can find our way back to those young days of innocent “liking” and unsteady footsteps into the unknown; dancing on pins and needles about what to say, how to say it, what to wear, and all that jazz. They are feeling that felt enormous in the moment, and their weight can once again be felt in “I Left a Party for You,” an unassuming song that captures a special kind of connection in its earliest stage.

Holding me close
If your mad just please let me know
Feeling butterflies
You kept my hair tie
Now I’m here in your arms
And then you said
I left a party for you
Ive been thinking about you too
Stuck in my head
Can’t go to bed
Cause I left a party for you

Pilar Victoria’s debut EP is set for release in early 2021. Stay tuned for more from the Houston-based teenager in the coming months, and listen to “I Left a Party for You,” out now.
