Compelling alt-rock fivesome The Barons’ fiery debut album Le Château, released November 7th, bursts with raw energy, sharp hooks, and a fearless sound that announces their arrival with confidence.
The title is a tongue-in-cheek nod to the band’s less-than-perfect high school French. Across ten stirring tracks, the album delivers a collection packed with high-quality standouts. Among them is the glistening, guitar-driven highlight “Way Out.”
The Richmond, VA band is composed of Peyton Alley (vocals, guitar, keys), Josiah Ragland (lead guitar), Kirtland Gray (bass guitar, backing vocals), Mathes Glymph (drums, backing vocals), and Jack Peacock (saxophone, keys). Formed in 2016, the band swiftly carved out a following, headlining colleges and East Coast venues and sharing the stage with acclaimed acts like Catfish and the Bottlemen and Judah & The Lion. Over time they have gained much praise, being a group defined by their deep connection and bold synergy. This mirrors the profound message of “Way Out”, a constant craving for stimulation over genuine connection.

I’m aware to be alive
Is recognize
Whats callin on me
But a pattern on the vine
Has weaponized
All that I see
On his fiancé’s apartment porch in Charlottesville, with the Blue Ridge Mountains as his backdrop, Alley began composing “Way Out” last spring. The track takes listeners on an unfiltered pop voyage, capturing the fading presence of empathy in today’s age of intelligence. With a persistent growth of social media platforms and AI, it can be easy to get sucked into that alluring virtual place.
Alley reveals, “I think the real way out is embracing our physical relationships authentically and loving each other every chance we have in a world that’s become more difficult to do so.”
So dig through the crumbs
Of material waste
Take what I need
Find a nice place to… stay
Intrinsically loved
In acquisitive ways
Take what they want
Leave me out in the gray
The way out
Is not too far from me

With Le Château, The Barons deliver a debut that’s as visceral as it is thoughtful, blending infectious momentum with quiet reflection.
“Way Out” exemplifies their ability to capture the tension between distraction and togetherness, offering a soundtrack for navigating an increasingly digital society. The album cements The Barons as a band with both heart and edge and this single showcases that seamlessly.
