I randomly came across Favela‘s most recent single “Gong”, the first original track after a series of remixes from the Leeds-based producer. Each layer of “Gong” has been carefully nurtured, combined together to create a complex sound coupled with soothing vocals. Although the song is quite mellow in mood, it still possesses a catchy quality, with floating acoustic guitar work, light horns that weave their way inside the melody, and even moments of piano. Favela is able to lace synth work into these traditional instruments impeccably–a mark of a true musical craftsman. With such a thoughtful and impressive track, I hope Favela has more along this direction in store for us in coming new year.
