Lostboycrow’s fourth album ‘The Sound of God Laughing’ balances musical experimentation with emotional depth and personal storytelling to capture both the quiet and the epic moments of life.
‘The Sound of God Laughing’ – Lostboycrow
For Lostboycrow, music is a way to create experiences, not just songs.
With his fourth full-length album, The Sound of God Laughing, the Oregon-born, LA-based artist invites listeners into a universe populated with flawed characters and raw, personal truths. Released via Nettwerk Music Group, the record blurs musical boundaries while capturing both the quiet and the epic moments of life.

“I’d love for people to step inside of these songs,” says Lostboycrow, whose real name is Chris Blair. “This past year was about getting back to music at its core. I just tried to share my voice and connect.”
And connect it does. From synth-pop to indie-funk to folk-tinted ballads, the album is as fluid and imaginative as the artist himself. With longtime collaborator Sam Beresford, Blair allowed himself to explore without boundaries.
“We weren’t limited by any parameters,” he says. “The sound opened itself up to experimentation. It’s not just one vibe.”

With early releases like “Dirty Dancing” and “Pretty in Pink,” the album begins to reveal its two-sided nature: Danceable and deeply thoughtful.
The former leans into late-night yearning, while the latter is a full-hearted love song, resurrected from years past, which Blair explains “had unfinished business.”
But the album also makes space for quieter, more personal reflections. On “Louis & Fritz,” Blair turns inward to honor his mother and her childhood best friend, who passed away from Alzheimer’s.
“It’s my favorite story on the album,” he says. “It’s about their mischief growing up on a lake in South Dakota and keeping that joy alive.”

Nostalgia, memory, and friendship echo throughout the track, grounding the album in lived experience.
Songs like “Shake On It” take a more introspective route, he says: “It became an anthem for expression. It’s about hugging your inner child and current self at the same time.”
The themes of self-love and redemption run throughout the album, especially on tracks like “Fresh Water Volcano,” which combines a love song with a call for change.
Even in his character-driven pieces, Blair blurs the line between observation and embodiment. On “Kyle Was a Cool Goth,” he immortalizes a real-life friend with a goth past, using the narrative to reflect pieces of himself. “It’s really me as the narrator, observing this human and adding my own flavor.”
That storytelling extends to his recent film work on the Canadian set of Smudge The Blades, which Blair, who produced the film, describes as Mighty Ducks on the rez, but deeper.

The Sound of God Laughing is a playful reinvention of creative freedom.
As Blair puts it, “It was fun to roll up my sleeves and be a kid again. It was a blast for me, and I hope it is for you too.”
