Buoyant and uplifting, Vacances’ new single is a sunny indie pop anthem of intimate connection and growth: Of a beautiful and resilient love that inspires us to be the very best version of ourselves every single day. Groovy and driving, sun-soaked and sweet, “Love Collapse” revels in love’s warmth, beauty, and enduring strength.
I think about the day we met
Dirty bars and cigarettes
And the kind of love that never dies.
Now look at us and how we’ve grown
Traveled the world and built a home
Walking with you side by side
If you feel the walls are crumbling
Our roof is caving in
Under the weight of this world
Under the weight of everything
Our love’s not collapsing
Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Love Collapse,” Vacances’ third single of 2021 (following this past spring’s releases “We Need You” and “Berlin.”) The musical moniker of West Coast-based artist Danny Lannon, Vacances debuted in 2016 following the disbanding of Lannon’s former electro-indie project The Frail. With multiple EPs and singles under his belt, Vacances has steadily risen as a beacon of alternative light and cheer, passion and drive over the past five years.
The artist’s latest offering is easily one of his best. Cheerful and charming, “Love Collapse” celebrates love and its untenable strength in an ecstasy of drums and frenetic guitars. “If you feel the walls are crumbling, our roof is caving in,” Vacances sings in the chorus. “Under the weight of this world, under the weight of everything, our love’s not collapsing.”
“This song takes you through the story of meeting my fiancée Stefani,” Lannon tells Atwood Magazine. “It also follows through the path I took of really growing up and seeing my future in front of me and having the courage to step up and take it. It’s a classic love story tied together with growing up.”
He adds, “‘Love Collapse’ was an idea that I had floating around musically for the past four years. I had a crazy case a writer’s block after releasing my last EP and had moved to Mexico City to explore writing at a studio called Toy Factory. It was an incredible experience and I eventually came back to the states and tried a few different versions of it. It ended up getting to where it is today when I connected with William and Carl. The song really took place as a story of my fiancée and my relationship, and the struggles that come with growing up and learning that a relationship is a two way street. It’s a testament to pushing through no matter what the challenge.”
I know there’s days it’s hard to take
When you’re trapped inside, can’t breakaway
And it feels like your love’s just a vapor trail
Remembering back to that day
When your heart got blown away
It was Like a dream, and you just don’t want to wake
Heartfelt and sentimental, “Love Collapse” is a reminder that whatever happens, you’ve still got one another; you’ll see things through. Coming at a time when so many of us have needed friendships and such intimate connections to keep us grounded, Vacances’ new single holds even more weight – giving us hope that, come what may, our love’s not collapsing.
