“FINDING HARMONY: MY JOURNEY AS A NEW MOTHER IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY”
by Taylor Sanders
•• ••
As a new mother in the music industry, I find myself reflecting on the “advice” I received early in my career – to hold off on having a baby as if it would jeopardize my chances of success.
The industry’s unwritten rule seemed to suggest that motherhood and music were incompatible, and the internal debate once raged within me – must I delay having a baby? Will perceptions of me shift? Could a baby cost me my shot at stardom? Can I truly balance a growing family with a burgeoning music career? While my husband advocated for starting a family earlier, I chose to prioritize my career aspirations. Now that I am a mother, I realize that I had unknowingly kept myself from experiencing the unparalleled joy and bond that my baby boy brings me. The fear of derailing my music career was insignificant compared to the love and fulfillment that motherhood has brought into my life. I cannot imagine my world without him now.
The juggling act of being a mother in the music industry is a daily challenge that requires immense strength and resilience. Balancing studio time with bedtime stories, rehearsals with pediatrician appointments, and late-night gigs with early-morning feedings can be overwhelming. Yet, in the midst of this chaos, I find moments of pure magic.
I feel fortunate to be a part of a team like 22Visionz. They not only recognize my potential as an artist, but also appreciate me as a person and encourage me to achieve my personal goals. We view the experience of new motherhood as an opportunity for growth rather than a hindrance. I am grateful to have a husband of 11 years that truly believes in me. He is involved in almost every aspect of my career behind the scenes and I thank God for his unwavering support through the highs and lows of navigating this industry.
Despite the hurdles and sacrifices, the rewards of motherhood in the music industry are immeasurable. My son has become my inspiration to dig deeper, dream bigger, and create music that reflects the depth of my love for him. Through this journey, I have found a new source of strength within myself – a strength born out of the fierce love and determination that comes with being a mother.
In the midst of this journey of self-discovery and defiance against stereotypes, I am thrilled to share a piece of my heart with the world. My new single, “Tennessee Love,” is set to release on April 5th. Tennessee has been the place I call home for most of my life. Despite venturing far and wide to pursue my dreams, I always find myself drawn back to Tennessee, where I discover a sense of belonging, comfort, and love that I cherish deeply. It’s in Tennessee that I feel truly at peace, surrounded by the warmth of my husband, my beloved family and friends, and my newborn son.
As I navigate this beautiful and challenging path of motherhood in the music industry, I am reminded of the power of resilience, community, and self-belief.
The stories of other mothers in the industry who have paved the way before me serve as beacons of hope and inspiration. Together, we are rewriting the narrative, proving that it is possible to have a successful music career while embracing the joys of motherhood.
In the harmonious blend of family and career, I have discovered a newfound sense of purpose and fulfillment. My journey as a mother in the music industry is a testament to the transformative power of love, music, and the unwavering belief that anything is possible when you follow your heart. – Taylor Sanders
