Unwanted attention from men is a common experience for many women. Any woman who has stepped outside her house even once understands this feeling. Men frequently flex their muscles in an uncanny mating call from across the bar, hoping to catch someone’s eye. Fortunately, their persistence makes it easy to spot the sleazeballs among them. the Isle of Wight band Wet Leg perfectly capture this experience in their new track, “Catch These Fists.”

Can you catch a medicine ball?
Can you catch yourself when you fall?
You should be careful, do you catch my drift?
‘Cause what I really wanna know
is can you catch these fists?
Ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, man down
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, level up
I know all too well just what you’re like
I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight
Released in April via Domino Records, “Catch These Fists” is the first single from their highly anticipated album, moisturizer, set to be released on July 11th. The album explores love in all its forms, and “Catch These Fists” specifically expresses a lack of love, conveying disgust at the presence of a man who ruins a good time.
This marks the Wet Leg’s return to the music scene since 2022, and they are coming out the gate swinging . “Catch These Fists” is a quintessential Wet Leg track, from the signature lyricism to the dance-punk soundscapes at which the band excels. The track features a catchy guitar riff that grooves along with shimmering percussion, embedding that groove into the listener’s brain. It’s the most memorable and addictive aspect of the track.
We’re on our way to the club
Stupid is, stupid does
Limousine, racking up
Ketamine, giddy up
I know all too well just what you’re like
I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight
True to Wet Leg’s style, the instrumentation is polished yet eccentric. Similar to previous feats like their massive hit “Chaise Lounge” and “Wet Dream,” they love a good heavy bass line. It may not be noticeable on first listen, but it becomes the most recognizable part of the track.

With “Catch These Fists,” the band returns to form with quippy and airy vocals. The vocals ride the wave of the instrumental, fading in and out of it, with only certain lyrics in the verses sticking to the listener’s palate.
Rhian Teasdale’s choice to sing the verses in a whisper creates an atmosphere of nonchalance, almost like a joke. This approach leaves the listener and the man at the other end of the conversation wondering whether these are genuine threats or playful remarks meant to soften the blow of rejection.
He don’t get puss, he get the boot
I saw him sipping on dark fruit
This always happens late at night
Some guy comes up, says I’m his type
I just threw up in my mouth
When he just tried to ask me out
Yeah, don’t approach me
I just wanna dance with my friends
The song captures the aggression we all feel inside. It’s not just about men approaching you at a bar; it also reflects frustrations with the government, long lines at the grocery store, or stubbing your toe. The intense bursts of frustration experienced in these moments are all encapsulated in the chaotic energy of “Catch These Fists.”
I know all too well just what you’re like
I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight
I know all too well just what you’re like
I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight
Fight, fight, fight, fight
Fight, fight, man down
