Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Bang,” out everywhere September 19, 2024 via French indie label Yotanka Records (and courtesy of Different Sauce).
Taken off his forthcoming debut EP Pleasure Complex (release date TBA), Ziyad Al-Samman’s first single of the year – and his fifth-ever track release – is absolutely spellbinding: A head-turning, booty-shaking, bona fide reintroduction to the English-born artist of Syrian and Jordanian heritage, who describes himself online as “your new favourite habibi music maker.” His supercharged, psychedelic disco-pop music pulls inspiration from the likes of David Bowie, Prince, Pulp, Gorillaz, Egyptian singer Amr Diab, and more – making his art a true melting pot of sound and influence that, at its core, distills our shared human experience down into cathartic and captivating songs.
Al-Samman candidly refers to Pleasure Complex as “the perfect soundtrack to an everyday life we wish were happier, lighter, and more vibrant.”
It’s a tantalizing seduction that ebbs and flows gracefully and theatrically through life’s highs and lows; the artist himself holds nothing back from embracing his innermost truths, sharing his authentic and unadulterated self with his audience. This is immediately evident on the EP’s lead single “Bang,” whose emphatic chorus opens into an equally expressive verse:
My heart is a ticking time bomb
I need a pulse that will set me free
You are electric and I’m a freak
I’m like a rooster won’t you run with me
I need to vacuum everyone
This heart is my only gun
Babe is this love that I can keep
Don’t wanna melt
Don’t wanna sleep oh
How do I know?
“The song is about being driven by love and madness,” Al-Samman tells Atwood Magazine. “The chase and excitement of a new relationship. I remember trying to channel some David Bowie energy when I first wrote this and I love how direct this song is; it carries a great swag and attitude.”
Hot, sweaty, sultry, “Bang” is two and a half minutes of nonstop ecstasy.
It’s an energizing euphoria that uplifts the ears and nourishes the soul, demanding our undivided attention as Ziyad Al-Samman gets us out of our funk and into his.
Stream this undeniable hit-in-the-making exclusively on Atwood Magazine, and stay tuned for more to come from the British artist over the months to come: With Pleasure Complex on the horizon, the sky’s the limit for Ziyad Al-Samman.
