It’s never gonna last for long
Are you getting sick of the same sad songs?
I don’t wanna play the game
There’s gotta be more to say
Living in the here and now
drinking in the park
’til the sun goes down
I don’t wanna scream and shout
and tell you that you’re missing out

Releasing a few months early for a summer single, “Last for Long” is a buoyant and uplifting embrace of life that is sure to keep us going well into the new decade. Exploding with a devil-may-care perseverance and spirited attitude, the track combines slick rhythms and a cool flow with a light acoustic pop instrumentation, crossing the electro-acoustic barrier with marvelous grace. It’s akin to the euphoric work of Crystal Fighters, whose songs – from 2013’s “Cave Rave,” to 2016’s “Yellow Sun,” and beyond – inspire moments of cheer, camaraderie, and connection.

Out this Friday, “Last for Long” arrives close on the heels of Youngr’s sophomore album Memories, a colorfully intense pop journey that just released on January 31 via Armada Music. The song is also the latest in a series of collaborative releases by Tall Children, who released the song “Dragging Me Down” with Clean Cut Kid last November.

The moniker for UK singer/songwriter Ben Hughes, Tall Children is a musical success story long in the making. In premiering his third single “Prey” last year, Atwood Magazine‘s Nick Baron praised the artist’s swift blend of moods and sounds: “Tall Children conjures both that sweet feeling of optimism and ferocity of revenge — an ardent combination that one might call a war cry for a better future.”

If “Prey” is a war cry for a better future, then “Last for Long is a cry for basking in the moment and making every second count:

But what a time to be alive
To find your home, you tribe
You’re down, I don’t know why
It’s never gonna last for long,
it’s never gonna last for long

“This track was written and produced in a single day,” Tall Children tells Atwood Magazine. “Like me, Youngr is a one-man music machine; a ball of energy. So between us there was an abundance of ideas to inject into a simple pop song. We agreed that ‘Last for Long’ should mix Ibiza Club bangers with acoustic pop, delivering a massive, euphoric drop chorus. It’s time to get up, engage and make change. All of us, Tall Children, together.” Hughes’ perspective is as uplifting as his music.

What about a face-to-face?
What about a day when your phone’s away
‘Cause we’ve all had enough
Of giving a fuck about it

Pairing Ben Hughes’ smooth tenor with Dario Darnell’s (Youngr) sweet falsetto, “Last for Long” gets a best-of-both-worlds treatment. It’s tight, but lilting and free; vibey, but tempered and nuanced; fun, and meaningful. Stream this new collaborative single exclusively on Atwood Magazine, and join us in taking a minute to observe ourselves and our surroundings – from friends and family, to our home, work, and so on: Like this song so thoughtfully says, it’s never going to last for long. Don’t let the small things get you down; live it up, instead.
