Darling, I don’t know how
We got from Escalante to tonight
I loved you, that’s for certain
But two rivers don’t make a right
Leaving, for that Maine wedding
Lost my shit at the thought of losing you
We were only dating
But I borrowed a book on mortgage rules

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Time Has Changed Us,” the title track off Inland Isle’s forthcoming debut album Time Has Changed Us (independently out April 30, 2021). An upstart band out of Jackson, Wyoming, Inland Isle debuted in late 2020 and are now well on their way to establishing themselves as part of folk rock’s next generation of movers and shakers. Consisting of songwriter-guitarist Pat Chadwick, lead guitarist Dusty Nichols, bassist Leif Routman, and drummer Shawn Fleming, Inland Isle’s first four singles introduce a group with a penchant for personal songwriting, rich harmonies, emotional guitar work, and evocative performances.

A warm wash of feeling accompanies singer/songwriter and guitarist Pat Chadwick as he spills his heart out in an achingly earnest chorus:

So call it off, we’re fading
Know the years weren’t wasted
But oh how time did change us
My love

“‘Time Has Changed Us’ is essentially a breakup song set in the context of all the upheaval our country has experienced in recent years. I wrote it before the band formed, but it became an impetus for defining our sound,” tells Atwood Magazine. “I first played it for our lead guitarist Dusty, who instantly came up with a picking part that created this sweet interplay with mine. As a full band, we spent a lot of time building the song dynamically and locking down that ostinato rhythm over the chorus tags at the end. We’d also get together without instruments to work on the vocal harmonies over some wine, and those became an indispensable part of the song. The recording process included a lot of experimenting with guitar tones and which instruments to leave in or out to create the right atmosphere. The song probably would have worked fine stripped down to acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies, but we wanted something more dramatic.”

Grieving, for our country
Lost sight of my home
My hands left your side
To fumble with my phone
Little tragedies I didn’t need to know
So call it off, we’re fading
Know the years weren’t wasted
But oh how time did change us
My love

“Time Has Changed Us” is a groovy, organic burst of sunshine, and a worthwhile title track for Inland Isle’s forthcoming debut album. Since releasing “Time Has Changed Us,” the band followed up with “Analise” in late February. A driving blues rock number boasting a stunning chorus, “Analise” further rounds out Inland Isle’s compelling sound and amplifies the already growing excitement around their forthcoming debut.

And I know you’ve got plans
You can’t be waiting
There is static on the line
To you now
Leaving, through Colorado
Past the flatlands into the night
So call it off, we’re fading
Know the years weren’t wasted
But oh how time did change us
Ripped apart and rearranged us
Oh how time did change us
My love
