Stream: “New Lover” – Joshy Soul

This song is meant for the beginning of the year – a “pick me up” song to start your New Years off right!

It’s time to make a fresh start: To say goodbye to last year’s toxicities, shake out all the bad in our lives, and welcome in some good. 2022 begins like every other year: With glints of hope running through the madness that is our everyday. It’s hope for a change: Hope for renewal and betterment. How we go about making our lives better is largely up to us, but it never hurts to have someone kick us into high gear – and that’s exactly what we get with Joshy Soul’s seductive new single. A refreshing immersion of sun-soaked n’ shimmering funk, “New Lover” is a radiant banger ready to wake us up and get us movin’ and shakin’ in 2022.

Heard you found a new lover
I’m lying I saw the picture
Picture perfect kind of view
And Infatuated with ya
I said baby girl what’s wrong with me
I know how to love ya
Took ya cross the galaxy, Do anything for ya

Reminiscent of Prince and David Bowie, “New Lover” is the kind of insatiable groove that fills our hearts and souls with euphoria. Released January 12, 2022, Joshy Soul’s third career song release follows last year’s “Dreams” and “Celebration,” further showcasing the budding Californian artist’s talents as a singer, songwriter, and performer. A fast beat and swanky, swirling synths tickle the ears as Soul lifts his song off the ground, singing about an ex’s moving on with someone new and, in turn, the narrator’s own journey to reconnect with himself:

Oh, oh I love ya
Oh, I think I need ya
And I want ya back baby, come on
Heard you found a new lover, a new lover, a new lover

A frisky feeling envelops the air as Joshy Soul encourages us all to move on to greater, greener pastures.

“‘New Lover’ is a song with double meaning!” he tells Atwood Magazine. “One being the fact of finding out your ex has found someone else and you find out the grapevine. Also, after a break up, bouncing back and finding yourself new lover, which is yourself. This song is meant for the beginning of the year – a “pick me up” song to start your New Years off right!”

I know it sounds like I’m trying to win you back
But there’s no way
I just want to let you know that guy you got ain’t better than me
No, no , no
I can’t lie, in my heart, there’s a bit of jealousy
Baby, You can Feel my love, right here all the way Tennessee
Oh, oh I love ya
Oh, I think I need ya
And I want ya back baby, come on
Heard you found a new lover, a new lover, a new lover
Heard you found a new lover, a new lover, a new lover

Let it be known that moving on is never easy; in fact, quite the opposite – but embarking on the kind of introspective adventure as is expressed in “New Lover” can not just be cathartic, but also fulfilling: Before we can truly connect with someone else on that deeply personal level, we do need to understand ourselves. When better time is there than the top of the year to hit refresh? “New Lover” is intoxicating and inspiring; a special thank-you to Joshy Soul for reminding us the importance of self-care, especially in such a glamorous package!
