Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering the music video for “Cavity,” the smoldering third single taken off Lily Seabird’s forthcoming sophomore album, Alas (independently out January 12, 2024). Following the fiery “Grace” and the grungy, hard-hitting “Dirge,” “Cavity” sees Lily Seabird – the pseudonym of Burlington, Vermont-based singer/songwriter and producer Lily Seward – tapping the folkier side of her musical roots as she lets her heart spill out in droves.
Longing and yearning collide with unadulterated grief and unresolved emotions as Seabird channels her own vulnerability – and her unabating loneliness – into a quiet, dark, and delicate confessional:

“I got a cavity filled that day and then I drank smoothie and a bunch of wine and wrote the song that night,” Seward tells Atwood Magazine. “I was feeling pretty sad about a lot of stuff, it’s a lonely song. My friend Francesca directed the video, she also actually got a cavity filled the day we shot it. The dominos are a nod to the track that follows, which is in many ways the heart of the record.”
The kind of bone-chilling song that promises to bring a live audience to a standstill, “Cavity” is a tender tempest – and the perfect introduction to Alas, Seabird’s forthcoming record.
“I wrote this album in 2021 and 2022 on the road, trying to figure out who I am,” she explains. “A lot of [the songs] also deal with the time when my close friend passed away. The title Alas meant a lot to her.”
“The album is about loss, coming of age, and sadness but there are also all these moments where happiness takes over,” she continues. “It can be two things at once: Life isn’t just pain and sadness, there’s also joy. They can all exist at the same time. Alas is an expression of grief, but it’s also for letting go.”

Produced by Seward and Benny Yurco, Alas promises to be an achingly intimate and all-consuming experience: An album leaning hard into grief, healing, and one soul’s unbridled, unabridged reflections on what it means to live, to love, and to exist in this world.
With its nuanced mix of sincere and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, “Cavity” offers the perfect four-and-a-half minute window into Lily Seabird’s mind – and firmly establishes her as an artist to watch in 2024. Complete with her own seductive saxophone performance, the song and its music video are easy to fall for, and hard to forget.
