AGE of the BEAR’s “Point of View” is a song that pulls you into a deeply personal, emotionally raw space – a space many of us find ourselves in at one point or another.
With reflective lyrics and a quiet longing for connection, it captures what it feels like to be unsure of your place in the world yet still hoping to make a difference.
Right from the opening line: “I came here for directions, but only got more questions,” Anthony Cubbage (the artist behind AGE of the BEAR) taps into something universally familiar – that feeling of searching for answers and instead running into more doubt. He doesn’t pretend to have life figured out. Instead, he lays it all out honestly, sharing a kind of confusion and vulnerability that feels like it could’ve come from any of us.

I came here for directions
But only got more questions
Don’t have a destination
Or any future in my mind
If you could see
My point of view
I’d ask if I
Could see yours too
One of the most striking moments comes with the lines: “Don’t need to be an idol / Don’t want my songs to be a bible / Just want to know that I could / Be the reason someone made it out of bed.”
It’s a simple but powerful wish – to be the reason someone gets through the day. Cubbage, a self-produced indie folk singer/songwriter based out of Troy, New York, isn’t aiming for fame; he just wants his music to mean something to someone, to help them feel less alone.
The beauty of the song lies in its contrast: A minimalist melody layered over heavy emotional themes. This balance makes it all the more resonant – especially for anyone who has wrestled with self-doubt or questioned their own significance.

At its core, this song isn’t just about one person’s search for purpose – it’s about all of us.
In a world that often feels like it demands constant answers, success or perfection, “Point of View” is a subtle reminder that not knowing is okay; that connection, honesty, and showing up for each other – even through a song – can be enough.
Don’t need to be an idol
Don’t want my songs to be a bible
Just want to know that I could
Be the reason someone made it out of bed
‘Cause if you could see
My point of view
I’d ask if I
Could see yours too
There’s something undeniably meaningful about AGE of the BEAR’s music – an intimacy that lingers long after the final note. It’s not just the sound, but the feeling behind it: raw, reflective and painfully human. That emotional authenticity is at the heart of his second album, Oceans: Ode to the Isolated Artist, which is expected to be released this summer.

To honor and preserve the creative journey behind Oceans, Cubbage launched a Kickstarter campaign to release the album on vinyl.
For him, this isn’t just about format – it’s about memory. Vinyl offers a physical, lasting tribute to the process, giving fans the chance to literally hold a piece of the journey in their hands.
“Imagine finishing your college degree, only to get an email with a PDF saying ‘congrats, here’s your degree (see attachment below).’ There’s something cathartically human about memorializing our experiences, our efforts, into something physical,” he says.
“While this vinyl could be a place-marker in my life as an artist, I hope it can also be something you can hold onto and say ‘oh, I remember this time of my life’ as a lot of albums do for me. Even if you listen to it mostly in the car on your phone. To have that visual and physical reminder that this period of your life DID exist, in real life, not just on a phone in a digital format.”
