Transient relationships, temporary love, and impermanent romance are experiences most of us endure. For better or for worse, love and relationships are often fleeting, but that is not always the case. In “Temporary Love,” April Ivy has seemingly discovered love with longevity, although her passion and certainty is tinged slightly with the imprint of insecurity and fear that previous relationships have left. An upbeat, hopeful track filled with smooth rhythms and mellow guitar licks, “Temporary Love” is the perfect follow-up single to her well-received song “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” which was released earlier this year.
Should I keep quiet or say good morning?
I caught you smiling when I was yawning
I shy away cause I’m insecure
I’m not perfect but you tell me I’m beautiful
Atwood Magazine is delighted to be premiering the fifth single from the talented singer-songwriter. Released February 21, 2020, “Temporary Love” is April Ivy’s second offering since her recent move to the independent label Beverly Martel. The track was co-written by Ivy, AZTX, and Danny Wilkin of Push Baby. The duo AZTX also produced the impassioned track.
Ivy released her first single “Be Ok” in 2016. Since then, the singer has received accolades including an MTV Award nomination for “Best Portuguese Act” and the award for “Best New Artist” for Nova Era. In Portugal, this rising star is already making waves, but now she is ready to go global.
Previous offerings from Ivy, particularly “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” are noticeably rich in disco beats and grooves – “Temporary Love” is no different. The funk-inspired bass line that runs throughout the track has a timeless groove that, when paired with the breezy chorus and rhythmic guitar riffs, creates a perfect pop bop with undeniably funky undertones.
I need you I need you close
I need you close enough
to never, no never, let go
Never let go of us
’cause I’m not me without you holding me up
‘Cause I know this ain’t no temporary love
Romantic relationships are a tricky beast to master, but once you do they are something to be cherished. April Ivy’s soft, smooth vocal delivery mixed with the track’s upbeat, euphoric melody strikes a clever balance between niggling doubts, fear, excitement and passion. This song is the perfect anthem for those in love who trust their partner to remain a permanent fixture in their life.
Give me honesty, give me time
Tell me secrets don’t tell me lies
‘Cause I’ll believe it if you say it’s true
Hanging on to each word you say,
Hold me close to you keep me safe
Cause I’m not perfect
but I’m stronger with you
“’Temporary Love’ is a song that talks about the exact opposite of its song title,” April Ivy tells Atwood Magazine. “Its sweet, honest and touching lyrics contrast with the funky upbeat vibe, which follows up Can’t Fight This Feeling. As a songwriter, these are some of my favourite lyrics which were written on the piano and I couldn’t be prouder! This song really opens a door for my fans to know my heart, which is something I’m extremely excited about!” Ivy continues.
April Ivy is a rising force who, at only 20 years old, is set to infiltrate the global music market in one fell swoop of unabashed pop and funky disco grooves. It’s only up from here for the young artist.
