‘For You’ was my way of accepting how I felt, and it taught me that sometimes it’s ok to not be ok.

I know I ain’t perfect; I got my flaws and my scars,” sings Liverpool’s RVHEEM in his stirring new single, “… But I got to prove you wrong, I know that you’re worth it.” To be human is to be perfectly imperfect, but it’s one thing to think that inside, and another thing to outwardly recognize your faults and fractures – let alone wear them on your sleeve. An achingly intimate embrace of vulnerability, “For You” is a beautifully raw and human confessional: RVHEEM lays his full self on the line in a tender, honest stripped-back display of visceral emotion.

I’m tryna figure it out
At the same time I’m loosing myself
I have a fear of missing out
On the chance we can fix this again
Tell me why you’re hurrying this conversation
It’s alright if, you feel there’s this pressure from us
I don’t like it, I don’t like it
Please just fight it, we can fight it

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “For You,” RVHEEM’s first single of 2022 and his fifth overall song release. A recent signing to Apple-owned independent artist services company Platoon, RVHEEM (pronounced ‘Raheem’) has spent the past three years slowly and steadily introducing himself through touching performances and moving lyricism. The Liverpudlian multi-instrumentalist and vocalist has already shined bright on his previous songs like “Cellular” and “Too Deep.”

Arriving 1.5 years after his last release (October 2020’s “Where We Are”), “For You” is a resounding reintroduction that puts the full range of RVHEEM’s talents on display. Lilting, gentle guitar work accentuates his poignant, heartfelt vocals. He sings:

Don’t wanna go
But if we can go back
To what we both had
Could we make it last
Don’t wanna go…
Cause time moves on fast
If you give us this chance
Then I’ll do my best for you
For you…

For RVHEEM, “For You” is his inner reckoning. “It’s easier for a man to act as if he doesn’t care than to face how he truly feels,” he tells Atwood Magazine. “‘For You’ was my way of accepting how I felt, and it taught me that sometimes it’s ok to not be ok.”

I know I ain’t perfect
I got my flaws and my scars
Some shit I ain’t healed from
But I got to prove you wrong
I know that you’re worth it
It hits me hard to think you’re gone
Or you’d try to go move on
But my faith in you’s not gone
Tell me why you’re hurrying this conversation
It’s alright if, you feel there’s this pressure from us
I don’t like it, I don’t like it
Please just fight it
We can fight it

“For You” is all about transforming a perceived weakness into a resolute strength. RVHEEM embraces himself fully and truly; not only does he recognize the good and the bad within, but in doing so, he also commits to bettering himself every step of the way. Bittersweet but ultimately empowering and inspired, “For You” has us enthralled with this Liverpudlian artist, and excited to hear more from him in the months to come.
