There’s something deeply tempting about the grooves Glass Animals put out in “Vampire Bat.”
The track – their first original since 2024’s I Love You So F***ing Much – is a smooth tune with a subtle bite of attitude, guiding and solidifying the expansion of the British band’s treasured Fresh Fruit Series through its sound. While they are best known for standout tracks like “Gooey” and “Heat Waves,” Glass Animals continue to crank up the dial and raise the curiosity and temperature of fans, igniting a fire in the hearts of listeners worldwide with each new discovery.

Bet you feel like a rock star,
don’t you now?
I know you get off
every time you get me down
Like a rock star gone too far
You got us all living on a seesaw now
Released August 8th, “Vampire Bat” is the fifth installment of Glass Animals’ beloved Fresh Fruit Series – a creative space featuring experimental collaborations with other artists. For the band – especially lead singer, songwriter, and producer Dave Bayley – this series has been sacred, with those involved going above and beyond the threshold of their own success, pushing themselves and elevating the music they make in the spirit of art and innovation.
Previous releases in the series include “Lose Control” with Joey Bada$$, “Gold Lime” (which is no longer available on DSPs), “Tokyo Drifting” with Denzel Curry, and “I Don’t Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance)” with Albert Hammond Jr, each of which offers a lively flair in variety. “Vampire Bat” is an alliance between Bayley and Los Angeles-based producer and engineer Rob Bisel, best known for his work with SZA, Kendrick Lamar, Doja Cat, and many others.
Peter Piper picked a pickled pepper and he went off
Butcher, baker, candle maker thirsty for the power
Bouncing ’round the room with a supersonic blaster
Eating up the doom as the clock is ticking faster
A kiwi is a cross of a strawberry and a lime
So detuned that the truth is a tight line
Giving titty twisters like you’re stuck in 1999
Ate what you fed mе, poot, poot, it’s a gold lime
Lean back just like that
Push mе down, make me do that dance
Oh, squeeze that, no more hands
Bit my lip like a vampire bat
Now lean back just like that
Push me down, make me do that dance
Oh, squeeze that, no more hands
Bit my lip like a vampire
“Vampire Bat” finds Glass Animals exploring the duality of what it means to be a rockstar and the tension that comes with being in the limelight of fame. There is a certain balance or a “seesaw” that artists face, driven by a strong desire for success, earned through a strong work ethic.
The sultry tune greets listeners with smooth grooves that spark curiosity about situations, with a flinty beginning to relationships that builds on expectations. The lyrics match the cadence of the drums and the soothing motion in the vocals, which lure one into an empathetic understanding of the artist’s world, evoking enchantment and affection.
Bet you feel like a rock star, don’t you now?
I know you get off every time you get me down
Like a rock star gone too far
You got us all living on a seesaw now
Like a rock star, don’t you now?
I know you get off every time you get me down
Like a rock star gone too far
You got us all living on a seesaw now

Glass Animals create a desire for connected affection as they emphasize the allure of temptation.
With each beat, “Vampire Bat” melts away tension, inviting listeners into its hypnotic sway. Through it, Glass Animals evoke a shared yearning for collaboration, connection, and passion, offering a glimpse into the emotional landscape of relationships and the delicate balance of life as an artist reaching for the skies.
All in my face, Don Quixote, hee-haw
Spank the monkey, more bananas than Diddy Kong
Shattered like a melon thrown from the Eiffel Tower
Such a menace, you’re a Dennis, you’re a true Hobbes
Ayy, man, what was that? Give me back my ciggie tax
Ninety percent of a ten-pack
Took it to the club and you put it in a piggy bank
Butter fingers dipping lobster claws with your fat cats
Lean back just like that
Push me down, make me do that dance
Oh, squeeze that, no more hands
Bit my lip like a vampire bat
Now lean back just like that
Push me down, make me do that dance
Oh, squeeze that, no more hands
Bit my lip like a vampire bat
Bet you feel like a rock star, don’t you now?
I know you get off every time you get me down
Like a rock star gone too far
You got us all living on a seesaw now…
