Sister duo KTJ & CARLY create a perfect post-breakup anthem with “Good Day,” the ultimate catharsis for all who listen.

The powerful indie pop piece gleams with driving drums and funk-fueled bass, making it both instantly memorable and utterly irresistible. Cozy yet fierce vocals echo with a passion that resonates deep within, and wistful harmonies add extra nuance, depth, and charm. After a difficult split, we sometimes envision schemes of retaliation – many of which can be heard throughout KTJ & CARLY’s latest release.

Saw you with your new girl
Laughing in an Erewhon
‘Bout how much you hate the prices
You think it’s over-hyped
You come here for the vibes
And it got me wound up tight
Like an eight-day clock
Oh, if I can’t avoid you
What am I supposed to do?
Steal your lucky charms
Can’t let go of this grudge
So sweet revenge sounds fun

Released on March 14, “Good Day” is a fiery offering from identical twins Katie and Carly Haynes – the Texas-born, Los Angeles-based duo that crafts songs that soothe the soul. A mainstay of Atwood Magazine’s pages for five years running, KTJ & CARLY’s music is intimate, personal, and deeply emotive. The sisters have an unshakable bond that shines through in everything from their stirring songwriting to their evocative performances, including (but not limited to) their passionate vocal harmonies, which highlight their unique sibling synchronicity. Each of their tracks is a hypnotic and undeniable earworm, and “Good Day” is no exception: Their first single of 2025, following the release of last year’s debut album Forever Young, is yet another incredibly catchy release, and the ideal soundtrack for bad choices and spiteful payback.

Grass is greener
House is cleaner
This will be a good day
I set your car on fire
Told your boss you’re a liar
Yeah, this is such a good day
Yeah, I rolled your house
Then I opened my mouth
Told everybody how you’re
super small down south
Yеah, this is such a good day
Such a good day
Oh, and now you got me singing like
This is such a good day
This is such a good day
Such a good day

“‘Good Day’ is essentially all about indulging in petty revenge fantasies,” the Haynes sisters share.

“All those little make-believe moments where you are thriving while your ex is having the worst day of their life, all thanks to you. This song truly lives in a world where spite fuels your best day yet. Because sometimes, the best way to move on is to imagine you’ve already won…”

Saw you in your new car
Acting likе you rule the world
Could I maybe do a hot wire?
Looked it up on YouTube
Thought I had a breakthrough
Now I wanna break you
Think I’m gonna take you out
We’re two ends of a seesaw
Everybody yeehaw
I think I’m gonna shoot you down

“Good Day” centers on the freedom to not care as you fantasize about exacting your revenge on the one who hurt you first. Some of those vengeance plans from the therapeutic track include setting that person’s car on fire, signing them up for Scientology, and even framing them for murder. Though you should never act on these wild fantasies, just picturing them is somehow healing.

KTJ & CARLY remain a rising force in the indie pop world.

Much like their stirring single “Forever Young” and their sizzling, seductive track “Falling onto You,” “Good Day” will connect deeply with many – as most of us have been through heartbreak, and worked through that pain in both productive and less productive ways. Lyrics like “Your mom says that she misses me” might even make you laugh, because it’s such a familiar scenario of parents getting attached.

Breakups are rarely ever easy. Put on “Good Day” and give them hell… even if it’s just in your mind.

Sun feels brighter
Steps feel lighter
This will be a good day
Signed you up for Scientology
Your mom said that she misses me
This is such a good day
I tied your shoes together
Raining down on your weather
But I’m havin’ such a good day
I framed your a$$ for murder
You’re probably going forever
Bye, I’ll see you probably never
God, this is such a good day
