Hot, smoldering guitars roar with bluesy, brooding fury as Little Falls Trophy’s latest single gets underway. “You love me in the morning,” Christy Lynn sings; “And I love you in the evening,” Doug Albregts replies. Back and forth they go, unpacking a beautiful love story along the way, their rugged voices radiating passion and melting effortlessly into one. Intimate, all-consuming, and utterly intoxicating, “My Little Sunshine (Rehashed Version)” captures the heat of the moment with timeless tenderness, grace, and grit. It’s an ode to love’s rawest, real-life moments – the parts that don’t show up in Hollywood films, but that make a lifetime together worth every second.

You love me in the morning
And I love you in the evening
Your sun is always shining
And my moon is ever-blinding
I love the way you groove me
And I love the way you move me
We stick to one another like no other
It’s so damn fine
Hello, my little sunshine

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering the “rehashed” version of “My Little Sunshine,” a sentimental and heart-on-sleeve track that originally showed up on Little Falls Trophy’s 2023 sophomore album, Dutch Motel. The fourth single taken off Little Falls Trophy’s upcoming LP Rehashed sees the New Jersey-based one-man band “rewriting the rules of reinvention” by breathing new life into previously released songs, putting “a bold spin on the sounds you thought you knew.” For singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Doug Albregts, it’s a way of revisiting and reworking many of favorite tunes, and having fun with them along the way – adding acoustic flair, lush guitar tones, and fresh arrangements that, in most cases, result in a completely different listening experience compared to that of the original versions. In short, it’s a testament to the joy of reinvention.

“It’s not just a redo; it’s a chance to explore what these songs could become,” Albregts shares.

The new and improved “My Little Sunshine” follows rehashed versions of “Tranquilizer Pill,” “Thursday’s Friday,” Fountains of Wayne cover “All Kinds of Time,” and “Addiction,” and sees Albregts teaming up with Asheville-based singer/songwriter Christy Lynn to turn what was one a one-sided solo into a sweet n’ steamy two-sided duet.

You love my little sweet spot
And I love your little foxtrot
Your light is always beaming
My soul is so redeeming
I love the way you soothe me
And I love the way you choose me
We stick to one another
Like no other
It’s so damn fine
Hello, my little sunshine

“‘My Little Sunshine’ is a pure and simple love song – one of those tracks that just makes you feel good,” Albregts tells Atwood Magazine. “It’s all about that effortless connection between two people, where everything just clicks. I wanted to capture that warmth, that feeling of being completely in sync with someone, like the way the sun and moon balance each other out. The lyrics play with contrasts – light and dark, groove and soothe, choose and move – because love has all these little dynamics that make it exciting and real. There’s nothing complicated about it, just an easy, joyful kind of love that shines through every moment.”

“One of the things that makes this song so special is the back-and-forth vocal exchange I did with Christy Lynn from Asheville, North Carolina,” he adds. “Her voice is absolutely stunning – soulful, rich, and full of character. She brought so much energy and depth to the track, making the harmonies and call-and-response parts really shine.”

For Albregts, this remake truly embodies the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ of his upcoming record.

“That’s why ‘My Little Sunshine’ belongs on Rehashed – this album is all about revisiting and reimagining emotions in a way that feels fresh, and this song does exactly that. Love songs can sometimes feel overdone, but when they’re honest and real, they never get old.”

“This version on Rehashed opens with an eerie, deep, native-instrument sound, meant to evoke a distant energy – like two people coming back to the forefront of their relationship. The song has a deep connection for me because of the people in my life that I love, and the ups and downs that go with it. I think a lot of people can relate to this feeling.”
