In all fairness, it’s been a while – two years to be exact – since party anthems felt particularly “relevant” given the state of world affairs, yet there’s an insatiable quality to Rudy Touzet’s new single that make us long for those evening escapades we once knew all to well – the ones that turn into all-nighters full of revelry and cheer, dance and sweat, laughter and connection. Whether you’re letting loose in your living rooms or back tearing it up in the clubs, Rudy Touzet’s supercharged “Goodnight Moon” is a radiant eruption of feverish passion and electric energy.

Going out like it’s a getaway
Serving bottles on a silver plate
My phones lost and our
Ride’s three minutes away (away)
Drink too much we’ll live it up now
Pour it up until we pass out
Stay out late yeah we don’t know the time
I don’t wanna be fine, don’t wanna be fine

Atwood Magazine is proud to be premiering “Goodnight Moon,” the lead single off Miami pop artist Rudy Touzet’s forthcoming debut EP (set for release later this year). With a cinematic, soulful electro-pop-heavy sound that can be likened to artists like Ruel and Justin Bieber, Rudy Touzet has asserted his talents over the past two years through a flood of tantalizing singles that showcase his vocal range and power, his sheer songwriting prowess, and his comfort in multiple production environments. Songs like “I Don’t Know” and “Treason” find that sweet spot between sentimental and cinematic: Not only are they catchy, but they also pack a serious punch.

Now nearly two years after his musical introduction, “Goodnight Moon” and Rudy Touzet’s forthcoming EP heralds his ascent as a pop artist worth watching closely. His new single rises with searing sonics and pulsing drums to a roaring chorus of escape and indulgence. One can feel a bit of the carefree wink of Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (TGIF),” but Touzet’s approach feels more like a surrender than it does pure celebration: His actions drain him, but he’s nonetheless drawn to the nightlife’s irresistible allure: That intoxication that fuels you in some respects, while sapping you in others:

Twenty hours, up all night ‘till I’m dead
Clock strikes like a blow to my head, now
Blacking out like the world’s gonna end
I said goodnight moon
Goodnight moon
Starlight takes me up to the sky
Spin around the world, along for the ride, now
Lose control before I lose my mind
I said goodnight moon
Goodnight moon

“My team and I had such a fun time putting ‘Goodnight Moon’ together!” Rudy Touzet tells Atwood Magazine. “I really tried focusing on that feeling of escaping reality. While working on this song, it really made us miss going out and being free on the dance floor. I wanted to bring together the feeling of letting go of all your problems in one night, and waking up to do it all over again. When I first sat down listening to the beat, in my head, I was just thinking about a spinning disco ball at a club. When that idea popped up I mentioned how people have no sense of time when you’re in a club. We then joked about how the disco ball is the moon… two seconds later we got ‘Goodnight Moon.’”

So many people tend to hide their internal thoughts and feelings and get stuck in a rotation of wanting to escape. ‘Goodnight Moon’ induces that sudden urge to go out and be free. I’m really excited for everyone to finally have this song and blast it on their night out and hopefully become their next pre-game anthem!

Last night we bought things that we shouldn’t
Called my ex but I didn’t want to admit it
(Well here we go again)
Drink too much we’ll live it up now Pour it up until we pass out
Stay out late yeah we don’t know the time I don’t wanna be fine
I don’t wanna be fine, don’t wanna be fine

You don’t have to be headed out for the night to connect with Rudy Touzet’s music: “Goodnight Moon” is invigorating, even inspiring, in its own right. It’s that longing to get out of your head and lose yourself to dance or any other activity for awhile; that desire to slip away, if only temporarily, and feel a taste of euphoria and unadulterated passion. After the years we’ve all endured, we deserve a little ecstasy.
