Unfortunately, my mom is going to listen to this podcast episode, and there’s not a damn thing I can do about it. I suppose she probably predicted certain things about my touring life… who knows? I’d been wanting to tell this story for a long time.

Brief synopsis: Former bass player for The Griswolds and current bassist for The Vines Tim John nearly lost a testicle in Tampa and I helped him save it.

This is a staple in my story stable. I tried writing it down, but struggled to do it justice. I needed to podcast. But bringing this episode together was no easy feat. Anyone that knows the bassist in question, Tim John, personally knows that he is notoriously hard to get a hold of.

Even now, as I write this, he hasn’t responded to my requests to post the episode on his socials. When scheduling this episode, I sent Facebook messages, texts, and emails. Eventually I had to have another friend from Australia involved. Our joint pressure forced a response. But then I had to schedule the damn thing. It got more complicated. Australia is 17 hours ahead of L.A. Calculating the time difference is beyond both of our mathematical capabilities.

Recording podcasts over Skype can be a waste of time if the other party doesn’t do things correctly. And if they haven’t, then I have to tell them that after spilling their personal guts for 2 hours, none of it’s on tape. So, I was nervous, but we got the time right and we nailed down a solid episode nearly 8,000 miles apart.

Albeit, his audio is a tad wonky but what are ya gonna do? Hopefully my faithful listeners focus on the story. My girlfriend says it’s not noticeable, but we share a lease so perhaps she’s being diplomatic. My other friend says the episode is too long and that nobody wants to listen to a story about testicles for 34 minutes. Fair. Maybe the world isn’t ready for a podcast about some musicians’ balls, but I had no choice. It was a story the world needed to hear. I took some artistic liberties and ended up with this whole episode because all of it still makes me laugh. When I’m an old man, I want this on record. When I’m running for political office, I will be so unhappy this is on record. After I’ve magically won that hypothetical political race and overcome my sordid past, I’ll be happy again.

If you’ve never listened to this show, normally it consists of 30 minute dissections of an musician’s career. Next week things will be back to normal, but ya know… this time I couldn’t help myself.

If you like this episode, please subscribe to the show on iTunes. And if you want to be a super great person… leave a review! You can also sign up for my mailing list.
