Close your eyes and relax into a phantasmagoria: NEWMEN’s new single “Trivial Pursuit” is a seductive and indulgent onslaught of blurred psych-rock energies ready to transport us to the next dimension.
Hold me in your charms
A warm bit
I was living on the edge of life I say it low
Keep me in your charms
A warm lit load
I am forced to self-regard
Got stoned with drips
Keep me in your charms
I want it

Based in Frankfurt, Germany, experimental pop five-piece NEWMEN are a reminder that art is very much alive and thriving in the music community. Delivering what they precociously refer to as an “answer [to] the question of originality in postmodernism” through their music, the band fall somewhere in-between the likes of Glass Animals and alt-J in their latest material.
Emerging up from an ethereal darkness, “Trivial Pursuit” hypnotizes with a pulsing electronic beat and heavy, euphoric psychedelic glaze. Smooth lyrics glide naturally over NEWMEN’s hazy instrumentation, culminating in a propulsive, power-driven chorus:
Kill me in your arms
Maybe i want it – for fun
I was living on the edge of life
a painting of a man
“The song is about the abstract desire of taking control over another person’s thinking, which in fact only reveals one’s own weakness,” NEWMEN tell Atwood Magazine. “In this way the imagined self-‘picture of a man‘ turns out to be a ‘sculpture of a boy‘.”
Hold me in your charms
I want it
I was living on the edge of life I mean it low
Keep me in your arms
A warm lit low
Speechless major touch
A sculpture of a boy
I am forced to self-ragard
Got loaned with tipps
Keep me in your charms
I want it
A cerebral expanse provoking us to dive deeper into our cognition, “Trivial Pursuit” mesmerizes both lyrically and sonically. Surreality becomes the new normal in an irresistible array of heavy beats and expansive abstraction.
