We’ve all been broken before – cut down when we needed to be built up, hurt by those we loved; to live means to know pain, but it also means to persevere and get through to the other side. SIX60’s latest single is a catchy ode to resilience and staying power: Charming and refreshingly sun-soaked, “All She Wrote” soars with sweet harmonies and bright, buoyant melodies to inspire and ignite the fire within.

All She Wrote - SIX60
All She Wrote – SIX60
I’m just walkin’ down these city lines
Yeah, I’m just tryna find my way
Time flies like a spark in your eyes
When you’re takin’ it day by day
Time heals all, they were wrong
But ain’t no use in lookin’ back
It’s already gone

Released February 26 2021 via Epic Records, “All She Wrote” arrives this year amidst a torrent of tour news that’s made SIX60 – already a multi award-winning, platinum-selling band beloved in their home country – an international phenomenon. Dubbed “the biggest live band on the planet” right now by everyone from NME to the BBC and beyond, the Dunedin, NZ-based five-piece have been playing massive “SIX60 Saturdays” concerts throughout  their home country – all of which have been social distance-free and reportedly still safe, thanks to New Zealand’s low number of COVID-19 cases.

The band recently played a triumphant sold out live show to a whopping 50,000 people at New Zealand’s national stadium Eden Park in late April, preempting a 2021 world tour with shows in the UK and throughout Europe.

Of the many songs sure to grace those stages – many of which haven’t seen a single performance in well over 14 months now – SIX60 will surely be paying special care to “All She Wrote,” a gorgeous piece of musical life advice that resonates from both experience and heartfelt sincerity. “Time heals all, they were wrong, but ain’t no use in lookin’ back, it’s already gone,” sings vocalist Matiu Walters as he and fellow bandmates Eli Paewai, Chris Mac, Ji Frase, and Marlon Gerbes weave their way through a wondrous acoustic tapestry. Their chorus is a reflective moment of zen – rich harmonies with a tinge of sadness implore listeners to impart their own feelings on a series of “life happens” statements that, resonant though they may be, are all largely left up to individual interpretation:

You give and you take
You love and you chase
That’s all she wrote
You laugh and you cry
You live and you die
That’s all she wrote
I’m just livin’ my life
I’m just livin’ my life (woo)
I’m just livin’ my life
I’m just livin’ my life

“All She Wrote” is just the second single SIX60 have put out since their third LP released in 2019 (all three of their albums, each with its own distinct color, are self-titled). For the band, the song speaks to their own experiences – if not being autobiographical, it’s certainly true to who they are and who they’ve come to be over time. “We were playing around with an old guitar that only had three strings left,” Matiu Walters recalls. “The chords for ‘All She Wrote’ came from those three strings. It’s a story of life and perseverance to the band. But we encourage you to find your own meaning in the song.”

It’ll be what it’s destined to be
See I’m just tryin’ to save you time
I can give you some wings and advice
But that ain’t gonna make you fly
You need to find
Your own peace of mind
‘Cause ain’t no use in lookin’ back
Move on, move on
You give and you take, you love and you chase
That’s all she wrote
You laugh and you cry, you live and you die
That’s all she wrote

Fast-forwarding to the band’s latest bit of news, Walters reflects elation at the band’s most recent gig. “Playing at Eden Park was a dream come true,” he tells Atwood Magazine. “It’s the country’s largest and most famous stadium, [and it was] made even more special by the fact no concert had ever been played there.”

SIX60 are certainly living the dream, and if they’ve not yet embodied the spirit of “All She Wrote,” they’ve certainly got us fooled. The band’s latest release implores us to relax and go with the flow; to live our lives, and not get caught up in trivialities or details that won’t matter tomorrow.

Life is fleeting; make the most of the time you’ve got, and keep moving forward. “That’s all she wrote.”

We wanna be older when we’re younger
We wanna be younger when we’re older
It’s just confusion until it’s over
That’s all she wrote (one time)
We wanna be older when we’re younger
We wanna be younger when we’re older
It’s just confusion until it’s over
That’s all she wrote
You give and you take
You love and you chase
That’s all she wrote
You laugh and you cry
You live and you die
That’s all she wrote
You give and you take (I’m just livin’ my life)
You love and you chase (I’m just livin’ my life)
That’s all she wrote (I’m just livin’ my life)
You laugh and you cry (I’m just livin’ my life)
You live and you die (I’m just livin’ my life)
That’s all she wrote
That’s all she wrote
